Finally read (CNN) some of the info on the letter found in the Subaru.  It said that Card did not think he would be found alive and included directions on who would get what of his possessions.  Suicide note?  Huge misdirection attempt?
Also read that the weapon found in the car was a tactical rifle in .308; crime lab will test it against the bullets found at the crime scenes.  That cartridge is far more powerful than the more common .223 found in such rifles, and it's a very common hunting cartridge, nearly as powerful as my .30-06 and its shorter length means faster chambering in a bolt-action rifle.

Searching for Card is worse than looking for the proverbial needle in a haystack, because that needle isn't moving, and Maine has loads of "haystacks".  LEOs have received 500+ tips as of noon, and if it looks like authorities are chasing their tails, they have to run down all the ones that seem somewhat solid.  The one they don't chase may be the one that was valid.

it's unreal, and makes it so hard for families to feel any sense of closure with this guy still free.  I've yet to see the official timeline of police response, but I imagine they were 5+ minutes behind him by the time they found his vehicle.  that's an eternity and plenty of time for him to escape by vehicle.

I can’t imagine they allow hunting season to start until they capture/find him unless they are confident is he no longer in the state. But they wouldn’t have surrounded the house last night if they were. I think they are way behind his trail tbh. They seem to be chasing a ghost at this point.

I don’t recall a mass shooter disappearing like this. They usually die on the scene or arrested.

I agree.  I think they've been behind since the start.  I said this last night, too, but I do think he was in and out at both establishments.  Mass shooters typically stick around trying to inflict as much damage as they can before they flame out, one way or another.  This guy didn't.  So fucked up.

  3. No school again today.  I wonder how long they'll keep the shelter in place order?  Hunting season starts tomorrow.  Are they going to advise against it?

It would appear the guy is long gone, or, if he's still local, has no interest in giving up his location by killing again.

Police are being tight-lipped about leads, as they should be.  If the best they could muster was surrounding his dad's house last night, they must not have a lot at this point.

Listening to the scanner Wednesday night they seemed disjointed and slow to react - but I'm not a LEO nor do I fully understand what a quick response sounds like - so just my $.02.  I imagine it's not easy in a small town with lots of adjacent rurality.  Further distances between LEO's, less man-power, well-lit surfaces, cameras.

All of it's so crazy and makes finding closer for victims and families that much more daunting.  Fukin sucks.

We still don't know if he targeted those he shot. However, if he didn't kill himself,  he is obviously an angry, unstable individual and could strike again somewhere.  That's the worrisome part of all this.

As far as I can discern, he was quick at the bowling alley.  Didn't pursue anyone.  Quickly got to the bar, and quickly left.  I guess what I'm saying is that I don't think he had time to target individuals, but the locale's were def targeted.

If he's still alive, it seems he'd rather get away vs. give up his location by striking again (at least for now).

    Total guess.

How the hell are they just getting him at his house?  That thing should’ve been picked apart within an hour of the shooting when they had his name.

And then if he wasn’t there… how’d he get back without them noticing?

Yeah I don't think he's there.  Local news just said tax records show it's owned by his dad.

You and I will never agree on any of this Luke…that’s why I suggested take all this to banter…but folks are refusing to do that.

And all of this has everything to do with soft on crime…that’s the root issue. And no one is suggesting an authoritarian state at all.  But The police have systematically been defunded, and their power has been decreased to a frightening degree. If you’re gonna state your points, and make your comments ..I will state and make mine. But again, we will respectfully disagree on this whole idea.

I will not respond any further on any of this. I feel very badly for Lewiston, and for Jeff, this is absolutely horrible.

were police defunded in 1999 when columbine happened?  were we soft on crime then?  How about Virginia Tech in 2007?
