Ain't gonna lie...don't like the idea of throwing away three weeks of prime climo. Waiting until mid Feb basically gives us one shot at getting a big one. (Prime climo starts to decline after PD). Hope we can sneak in something else before mid Feb...

What we have now is AWESOME--however, by itself it won't help us to get above average, I don't think. And that's the bar for this winter imo, given the uncertainty after this year.

Getting 2 over-performers this week is making me pretty optimistic for the rest of winter.  El Niño winters tend to be Jan to March, from what I've learned from the experts around here. The models are also not doing well in the long-range.  They will likely show something completely different next week.

HRRR has a lot of moco pushing 6" including the 2-3" that's already fallen! personally i haven't gotten a 6"+ event since 2019 so this would be awesome

We had well over 6 " in Jan 2022...

“way more”? So like… 2” more? DCPS literally closed the other day.

I am assuming it was more about the cold temperatures than the snow amounts, but I heard that they measured about 4" at National airport. I was shocked.  Historically DC schools often stay open when all the other systems close. I don't think they have buses so all the kids walk to school.

lol DCPS is the only district in the entire metro that hasn't called it - fuckin Mayor Bowser

Have you not been here long?  It takes way more than a couple of inches to close DC schools.  They are always the last to fall, if they do.

$20 says they hold with advisory. Only spot I could see a warning is the Mason-Dixon counties.

They will change to a warning when it’s almost over. I actually love it when they play catch up.

This snippet was in the AFD from LWX as well this morning

There are indications of CSI banding moving from south to north
Friday morning, so areawide there could be brief reductions in
visibilities coupled with higher snowfall rates. Given cold
roads, travel could be slick/difficult Friday morning.

What is CSI banding?  Does that have to do with coastal influence?

    On school alerts:

I think the preliminary decisions for the lowlanders (Arlington/Alexandria/Falls Church/Fairfax) won't come until after 4 pm, and may start off as school delays rather than school closings. ((Have to save it up for Febrruary...))

PW and Loudoun may start off sooner, and may go straight to closings, as they have higher elevations.

Nah. Most will be closed tomorrow (except DC), with probably a delay on Wednesday.
