Because this is the december pattern thread and there are threads for specific events earlier than 15 days.

Christmas miracle on the gfs even though it shows rain. Big coastal storm.
Remember that one one in 99 or 00? Rain to ice to snow and everyone was driving home half tanked in a raging snow storm?

Why don’t we worry about our snowstorm this week and cold air that is coming?
Considering the same ensembles called for record warmth for the rest of Dec a few days ago, maybe they arent so reliable 15 days out? Just a thought

if you want to have snowy winters from now many of us should consider moving either to the snow belts or northern newengland.. cause it won't be happening like it was the last 20 years in the city and surrounding areas ..
Can we stop posting this?
The region gets 20-30 inches of snow per year.
Let’s stop making it sound like we live in Jacksonville.
it is perfectly legitimate to expect and look forward to snow of some sort in the NYC metro

I was reading the observations from my Brooklyn forum neighbors. I rushed to my back window and scanned my overcast postage stamp.. I turned away when the laughter from my still alive tomato plant started to annoy me. I’ll look again after the coffee settles. As always
That is one hearty tomato plant! You should save the seeds from that thing!

I feel like our running theme the past few years is who can call out Winter's Over the quickest. I feel like someone just said we're running out of days in December... it's December 7th. Enjoy the journey.
I agree with you 100%.
I just want to clarify what I said.
You are going to approach the middle of December with a below normal departure. You would need unprecedented warmth in 15 days to get December into the top three warmest in New York City. I’m not rushing anything... I’m just saying that is a stretch even in the 2010s.

Doubtful in Dec for NYC. Frankly, you begin running out of days to make that happen.
We are already way colder than 2015. You ride that out this week you get to mid month.
At which point you would need 2 weeks of unprecedented Nino warmth to get there.
you would need to get above 43.7F for the average to notch past 1984 for a number 3 slot

It looks like a ridiculously mild pattern is going to set up shop by the 15th. Consensus on all 3 major ensembles (EPS, GEPS, GEFS) now, along with the CFS
If we couldn’t believe the forecast more than five days out when it was cold, how come we preach gospel when its showing warmth? Because that is the default state?
Just curious.
On a separate note, this forums swings wildly through emotions by the day based on the latest model.
I enjoy the knowledge on here. But geez

Except it wasn't that close. Temps were in the low 40s all night. It's not like it was mid 30s and rain.
Thank you! Lot of wishcasting on here. my temp actually climbed over last hour. wet flakes were just that, not a region wide transition as the storm exited. Temps are still in the 40s.
Exactly as predicted all week

That was a very large band of heavy rain that went through at 6:30a
In a different climate this would’ve been a major snowstorm

Thanks! I am excited to be further north as much as I love southern Westchester, it will be nice to be up by mountains too. I just hope we do get these overnight freezing temperatures this weekend. Would love for these tiny flies to die off for the year. It is just frustrating without truly cold air. I'd take warm days if we could at least get cold nights! Fingers crossed for snow to get us all in a festive mood, even if it is just a dusting. I am worried though about the ski areas because they need this season as do us winter sports people. Being outside really keeps risks of covid down, and it is still good exercise. Most importantly just getting outside is good for mental health. We all need more of this!
The catskills are still completely shut down. scary. I can’t wait to put on the skis

Who said that? Never looked all that great with the lack of any arctic air....
Have you been in the same forum over the last week? Guys have been going on and on over the great look and great pattern.
I kept pointing out that the first week of December was getting warmer and warmer in the midst of all the cold and snow talk.
50 and rain on Monday. 50 and rain this weekend. 50 and rain next weekend. Not even close

32F as a sea of warmth with transient cold shots and warm rain continues.
Very consistent pattern through several years of shifting blocking, pac jet, mjo, nina, nino, and month.
I predict it will continue...without ever looking at Day 10 on a LR forecast
