  1. sorry. It’s just frustrating that people write off 1/3 of the forum. Back to weather. I think it’s an interesting set up because it’s the opposite of what we deal with most of the time it’s rain, transitioning to snow with cold air rushing in. The question is how quickly can the cold air get in here and can it reach the coast. The guys deriding this as a marginal air mass: the cold air will be in place. It’s a matter of timing with the storm. the cold air coming in is not marginal
  2. I feel like I should be under a dense fog advisory. Very surprised that I’m not. Well under a quarter of a mile here
  3. That’s right! you had the snowy week in January you get another one in February and before you know it you cobble together a winter with some memories. What else do you want? A lot of these guys on here are chasing a number for a record book and they don’t care if it melts the next day. I loved this past week! I don’t remember the last time we had snow on the ground for two weeks in January and I’m pretty close to that. Who cares if it was only about 5 or 6 inches of snow between three different events? I think my kids and I have been sledding five or so times already. I’m hoping for more.
  4. anybody with an iPhone having an issue posting photos here? I always do that screenshot thing and it’s never been an issue up until about a week ago and I can’t get the file small enough to upload anymore. Thoughts?
  5. you didnt fall for that 65F did you? The clown map of temperatures
  6. listen, this guy and that QQ guy just forget dealing with them with regards to this winter. Both declared winter over on January 20th. meanwhile, I had sleet and snow falling last night. This guy made the scientific prediction of a light snow event the first week of March…yesterday.
  7. Getting a good dose of sleet here in Westchester. even the road is covered with crunchies.
  8. BS. He is an intelligent poster and you don’t get to piggyback on him to back up your statements. Sorry
  9. you declared winter over on January 20.
  10. Okay, ill play. Based on what science is this prediction?
  11. Lakes moisture and uplift over terrain
  12. moisture laden, mild air and storm slowly dragging west versus cold, dry air and tip of storm touching us east I would imagine. The warm sector of the storm is much larger with spotty precip. The original post from the poster that you quoted is incorrect. It’s not gonna rain. there’s gonna be spotty showers all week with periods of rain. It is interesting to be along the shores of Lake Erie and see a prolonged showery type of snow. Regularly in Cleveland and if you ever spent time there, they don’t always get 6 inches of snow, but a constant stream of dusting that relentlessly add up
  13. he is an intelligent poster. thats why he wont answer that on 1/21
  14. Not going to be anywhere near 65 on Friday
  15. see the issue were facing now is we’ve essentially lost December snowfall. And we’re banking on blockbuster January, February, and March to make up for it. So if we had a couple of inches in December, this wouldnt look so bad. Not a good place to start Jan 1…every single year now
  16. You should sign off then. But please give us the winning mid February lotto numbers before you go!
  17. anything north of cross county pkwy did very well. didnt have to get 30 miles north. More like 10-15 with some elevation. there are lots of factors, but the extreme warmth being held on in the concrete is an issue.
  18. all that stuff causes cancer. you’re almost better off with the ticks
  19. you are over analyzing it. There’s not enough natural elements in New York City. It’s too large of a concrete jungle. that does not do well in a warming climate. The things you mention apply to the coastal areas of Long Island just fine. But there’s a reason why the rest of the region has snow and there’s a giant hole over New York City and it’s called overdevelopment that holds heat and a rapidly warming climate. Frankly, I expect it to continue. All those warm overnights ( plus 10 to 15 from the surrounding areas) were leading to this. I would love if somebody had some data from China or some other tightly packed Asian countries with huge cities to see if something similar is going on there. Long story short, I don’t think this is a natural phenomenon, but a man-made phenomenon interacting with a man-made warming situation. It just doesn’t get cold in New York City for any prolonged period of time anymore and it’s not gonna snow under those circumstances. But if you go 20 miles north or east or west or even south, you see much less of an example of this
  20. It was icy as hell last night. there was a fine layer of new snow on top of all the wet roads that froze. The salt was needed and appreciated by 5pm haha
  21. I don’t know I guess there’s a lot less snow on the ground on Long Island and in the city or something. Because all these posts keep talking about snow down in Philadelphia and in Washington. And I’ve had snow on the ground since the last storm and I got more snow today and it’s a winter Wonderland and I don’t understand the fascination talking about Southern Jersey. These posts make it seem like we have no snow on the ground and haven’t had snow on the ground all week. It is very odd though. I can’t wait for next week when it’s gonna be 50 and there won’t be snow on the ground. I want to see the same people posting about how awful it is.
  22. just went sledding with the kids. Excellent conditions because the ice from last week coupled by the couple of inches of new snow make it a fast chute.
