  1. our w.e. champ for winter storms lol, all snow that would have been 50".... was it below freezing for that entire storm here?
  2. wow was that a stalled noreaster? how did we do in Dec 1991?
  3. at JFK and SW Nassau we had an inch of rain followed by double digit snow, first time ever for that lol
  4. that was the day that the kids died in the school cafeteria in Westchester wasn't it? wow that outbreak was bigger than our Labor Day 1998 outbreak?
  5. That was the craziest fall- haven't seen one like it since. Basically went from this historic severe weather outbreak to like a week straight of high winds, with all the leaves down before Thanksgiving, to this dry powdery snowfall that stuck to the roads immediately. And the NYC measurement of 4.7 only tells part of the story, south and east of the city there was double that much snow, with 6" here in western LI and 10" out on the east end and also down in central and southern NJ including ACY. Then we went into the deep freeze for all of December, with small 1-2" clippers all month, but it was so damn cold that what little snow fell hung around all month and our waterways froze over. There was only a small thaw in the middle of the month that came from a blown forecast of 6-8 inches of snow but the secondary formed too close to the coast and instead of thundersnow we got thunder rain lol. Then record warmth with a 40 degree avg temp for Jan and Feb combined and then historic mid and upper 80s and Bermuda shorts by Mid March lol- no need to go anywhere for spring break that year! And that busted snowfall forecast was the diametric opposite of the blown call the previous February when we were also supposed to get 6-8 inches of snow but got 6-8 inches of virga instead as the snow fell to our south, up to 20 inches near ACY. Ah, those were the days.....
  6. Yeah and I think in the middle of it there was a tornado that killed like 10 kids in a school cafeteria in Westchester
  7. Was that a derecho? Do you remember the extreme October event in the late 80s? I forgot what year it was- either 87 or 89?
  8. Chris, when was the last time NYC has had 1.0" of LE (all snow) in two consecutive days?
  9. it's already happening with sea level rise. People from island nations in the Pacific are migrating to Australia and for example in the US, people have been forced to relocate from LA coastal areas which are no longer habitable because of sea level rise.
  10. Prince William has just launched his "Earthshot Program" to award 5.3 million each to 5 winners every year dedicated to protecting the planet, inspired by JFK's Moonshot Program
  11. Incentivizing green energy is a good thing, the thing we need to stop is subsidizing the fossil fuel industry with taxpayer money. About burning wood, it needs to be disincentivized by taxing it, the same way Ireland decided to tax Subway "bread" higher because it isn't real bread (10% sugar) and not part of a healthy diet.
  12. Yes, burning wood, is just another way to release more carbon ....
  13. Yes! and did you see where they mentioned what China is doing? Devious! The best part of the series for me was them showing how much more open to manipulation humans are versus other animals, and how to hack one's own mind in order to filter out bad information. Very useful.
  14. 2030? are you from the future or just stuck in the past lol
  15. even if you dont believe that climate change is an existential threat, you should know that fossil fuels lower air quality, fracking causes earthquakes (via wastewater injection) and a general increase in pollution.
  16. Carbon taxes? That would work, but tax the fossil fuel companies even more than the consumers. But this has to be done on a global level......when was the last time humanity did anything on a global level? The ozone layer problem (which btw the ozone layer is getting larger now over Antarctica.)
  17. These wildfire complexes are particularly alarming, as large fires are now joining together to become huge megafires. The first million acre megafire was just recorded.
  18. Yes and until they are overcome, none of these 2035/2050 plans will work. The Paris Climate Accord is but a hollow shell, something MUCH stronger and binding is required (with economic sanctions if necessary).
  19. Poetic justice will be when massive hurricanes take out fossil fuel infrastructure, which is actually built near coastal areas.
  20. looks west to east, centered on central-eastern PA to N NJ, NYC and LI....I wish we get storms like this in the winter too (with snow of course)
  21. did you read the Chevron article on how they deal with class action lawsuits? it amounts to lawyer intimidation and getting favorable judges to punish those who bring lawsuits against them
  22. and sea level rise is on par with the more extreme models
  23. Chris, remember we talked about how a cold October and mild November used to be a pretty good indicator of a snowy winter? That lasted until 1996 lol.
  24. wow 5 inches in the Poconos and 3 inches here, is the other guidance similar? any wind issues?
