  1. are we even sure we're getting *heat*? I just saw the forecast now says the sun won't come out until next Thursday (why do I feel like Annie, saying that out loud in my head lol.) And now we have a phantom rainstorm on Wednesday which didn't exist before now? I thought something can't be created from nothing-- where did this phantom rainstorm come from?
  2. only one 80 degree in March (the last day of the month and only for the first half of that day) and cool and rainy for April (yuck).
  3. He forgot about our cool and rainy April lol
  4. April was extremely cool and rainy and please don't give me the bogus average temp *stat*
  5. Can we get one of these for Nassau County too? I am consistently hotter than JFK even though I'm considered to be on the *south shore* 1 mile south of Sunrise Highway but north of the barrier islands by over 2 miles.
  6. I don't think anyone gets these fabled sea breezes unless they live on the barrier islands like Long Beach. For a sea breeze to get where I am at, it has to be at least 20 mph otherwise it only comes in after the high temperature has already been reached. That's how I know there was no sea breeze here last Thursday, the highest temperature was recorded at 4:30 PM. We can easily hit 100 on a SW wind here in July. The temperature drops after 3 pm but the high of 100+ is reached around 1 pm.
  7. By the way, there was no inland superiority last Thursday we had zero sea breeze -- one of my sensors actually recorded 93.7 at 4:30 pm on the north side of my house, but I don't record that number because it's near the roof of my house. But based on the 94 you listed there, maybe it was accurate? I still don't like the idea of being 4 degrees hotter than the airport especially on a westerly wind. I know I was hotter than JFK here in SW Nassau, I just can't say 4 degrees hotter. I went with the average of all 4 sensors I use and so went with 92. We were definitely hotter than JFK, I just can't say 4 degrees hotter. At least 92 for sure though. I'm not north of JFK, I'm 5 miles almost due east of JFK. What could cause southwest Nassau to be hotter than JFK-- also a compressional airflow?

  9. a little iffy about 94 since it's 2 degrees higher than Newark. especially in Queens (that makes it 4 degrees higher than either LGA or JFK).
  10. EWR comes closest to matching my personal experience which is that 2010 and 1993 were the two top summers.
  11. oh we had massive wildfires that summer
  12. it makes me wonder if those places actually undermeasured heat in 2010, LGA had 48 90+ days in 2010 which is going to be hard to match. 2010 was so far in excess of anything we have ever had, it was to summer what 1995-96 was to winter.
  13. being wetter and onshore flow are directly connected right? so the more onshore flow you have the wetter it will be. I still maintain those micronets are overly cooked, there couldn't have been any 97.5 right near JFK or anywhere else in our area. I can accept 91-93 last Thursday but anything higher than that seems overly hot.
  14. I'd like it to only rain at night if possible lol My flowers are not in good shape sunshine during the day and rain at night!
  15. I thought 1998 had a lot of rain because it was a super el nino, 2002 was the really dry/hot year, check it out.
  16. No I turned on my space heater in my bedroom as late as last night and early this morning I also use it to dry out the air when it's rainy outside. air conditioning costs are much less than heating costs anyhow (I only use window units here).
  17. also if you look at big heat summers like 1991, 1993, 1995, 1999, 2002, 2010 and 2011 you'll notice it wasn't as high in those specific years, so it makes me think it's more connected to rainfall rather than heat.
  18. thats crazy but I have a theory, did you see how low it was in 2004? this dip happened when our summers and years in general became rainier. It was higher when our summers and years were drier.
  19. I think that's a law of nature, if you have such extreme heat there has to be a cool down in between to give the heat time to reload. With higher humidity you don't need that because the elevated mins create more warmth.
  20. Hey we lived here back then, we didn't have AQI > 150 like we have now almost every other day back then.
  21. hopefully this heat is just the appetizer with the main show coming in July.
  22. you know how I feel about average temperatures lol only below average because the air was drier and so the mins were lower, but the heat was all time record breaking
  23. more ground air pollution in 1993, 1999, 2010 and 2011? I think it's worse now with more people driving lol
  24. 1953 was also wild with 6 100+ days and 4 100+ days at NYC including two historic heatwaves as well as our longest heatwave in history that included the all time record high of 102 in September !!
  25. are you sure this isn't from traffic congestion? the 2020s really have not felt anywhere near as hot as 1993 or 1999 did or 2010 or 2011 for that matter. scientifically speaking it's much harder to get extended or extreme heat because of more water vapor in the air, so it really hasn't been as hot as it was in those years. By the way, I was looking at wunderground a lot this past Thursday and one of those micronets reported a high of 97.5 right near JFK..... maybe they are running hot as JM said that day?
