  1. wild a lot of extremes in the 1930s, it seems to have a 30 year recurrence rate as the 1960s and the 1990s were very similar: Note 1930s 1931-32 winter VERY WARM 1933 summer VERY HOT 1933-34 winter VERY COLD AND SNOWY 1935-36 winter VERY COLD 1936 summer VERY HOT 1960s 1965-66 winter COLD AND SNOWY 1966 summer VERY HOT 1966-67 winter VERY COLD AND SNOWY 1990s 1991 summer VERY HOT 1992-93 winter VERY STORMY 1993 summer VERY HOT 1993-94 winter VERY COLD AND SNOWY 1994 summer VERY HOT 1995 summer VERY HOT 1995-96 winter VERY COLD AND SNOWY 1999 summer VERY HOT
  2. hopefully we make it since the rest of the month looks very hot
  3. I hope this air pollution from Canada doesn't interrupt our heat next week.
  4. most of the dustbowl winters were horrible, especially 1931-32, but didn't you get a lot of snow and cold in 1933-34?
  5. wow nothing close to 1936 even 1988 is 3 less. ours was 4 in 1953 and 1966 at NYC 3 at JFK in 1966 and 3 there in 2010
  6. 1890s were really hot too, there was a historic 10 day heatwave in 1896 that killed 1,500 people in NYC.
  7. wow that is big but looks like they leveled off after the 1940s and even dipped for a bit in the 2000s and then went back up to 1930s-1940s levels during the 2010s.
  8. I guess you rarely hit 100, was the last time in the 1950s?
  9. Yes this could be our last big heat for the season so it would be nice to go out with a bang lol.
  10. our record for 90 and 95 and 100 degree days is now 2010, but before that it was 1983 and before that 1966 and before that 1949, 1953, 1955 hold those records.
  11. Just going by number of 90 degree days, 1983 had our record prior to 2010. JFK did this amazing thing in 1983, 100 degrees in both July and August and then we hit 99 on 9/11/83 with 7 90 degree days just in September, 37 for the season. 1983 was hot June, July, August and September. I don't go by average temperatures, NWS ranks summer heat by number of 90 degree days. We can extend that to very hot summers by ranking them by 95 degree days or even 100 degree days.
  12. lol you're basically saying everything we've been saying in the Yankees thread and Cashman must be blackmailing Hal I can't see how else he is still running the team.
  13. I thought Tuesday was supposed to be the hottest day? Either way we could make history twice this summer, our first 100 degree day in June AND our first 100 degree day in the July 24-30 period!!
  14. how is the smoke coming in from the east? I thought the winds normally have to be coming from the direction where the fire is happening?
  15. I'm confused, shouldn't the smoke be coming in from the north?
  16. it's not that bad here right now, just like a slight haze.
  17. 1983 and 1991 and 1993 and 1999 and 2002 and 2010 were extremely hot for you guys too
  18. I noticed the 1940s and 1950s were pretty high around your area too. Then a second spike in the 2010s. I think the increased dew points means fewer 90 degree days in the new era. I don't have NYC numbers for 90 degree days offhand, but I do know that the 40s and 50s were peak 90/100 day weather here, with a nod to 1966 being the hottest year in the 60s. Then we had another peak in the 1990s.
  19. Yes, I think 100 degrees could get to JFK, on a WNW wind JFK is the regional hot spot. Tuesday too.
