  1. the population growing like that isn't a good thing though, it causes a bunch of other issues. But it's more of a developing world problem rather than us since we've managed to balance out our population.
  2. you're a vampire dude why do you wear a hoodie? do you have some sort of allergy to sunshine?
  3. The problem goes back to the population of course. We never should have let it hit 8 billion. But on a side note, I've been reading up about more efficient ways to do farming to where we can feed more people without damaging the environment. It would have to be a transition of course. It involves no till farming and advanced nutrient retention methods that limit runoff.
  4. Yes and thats all unsustainable. It was only supposed to be a stop gap measure. Developing countries are switching back to organic farming because of how the so-called green revolution destroyed the nutrients in the soil via destructive fertilizers and pesticides are responsible for the mass extinction of pollinators.
  5. We're not talking about childhood crap, we're talking about the raging diabetes epidemic, food allergies, rising cancer rates (especially among young people.) None of those other things matter anymore, what we have to deal with now is much worse.
  6. we're also much more diseased and unhealthy than we were before, in spite of our longer lifespans.
  7. Yes, it's really the developing world that needs to be better educated so they will be better at family planning.
  8. 1 billion would probably be far better for the high level of resource consumption we have. At any rate, we'll have to cap population growth somewhere around 10-11 billion according to most studies.
  9. There is a solution for the cows, feed them lemongrass. It's healthier for them and reduces methane emissions considerably. We could all improve our diets, including the animals we raise. Likely those buffalo you mentioned had a far better diet. The artificial crap we consume isn't good for us as you can see an increase in various types of illnesses (cancer, autoimmune diseases, IBS, obesity, diabetes, food allergies, hyperactivity, etc.)
  10. I wonder how many people know that the planet was completely uninhabitable throughout most of its history.
  11. omg I would have loved to have seen this (and perhaps even joined them lol) 1899 - Two women and one son lived to tell the story of being picked up by a tornado and carried more than a fourth of a mile, flying far above the church steeples, before being gently set down again. The young boy and one of the ladies said they had the pleasure of flying alongside a horse. The horse "kicked and struggled" as it flew high above, and was set down unharmed about a mile away. (The Weather Channel)
  12. Looks like some major heat will move in starting next Wednesday Don? I see forecasts for 85+
  13. plant based plastics are the wave of the future.
  14. the pollen problem is currently worse than the smoke problem lol. Where can we track pollen plumes that shift around because of the wind?
  15. Good point. But the last sentence depends on which nation one lives in. In nations with poor education, it isn't happening.
  16. This is exactly why crapitalism is unsustainable. I think the entire system of how the world operates will need to be overhauled, not just transitioning off of fossil fuels. There are a lot of other evils that stem from it too (pollinator mass extinction, higher rates of cancer, etc.)
  17. Keeping the amount of water vapor under control and in balance is vitally important. It's a greenhouse gas too. High quantities of water vapor can lead to breathing problems and poor air quality. It's an air pollutant in high quantities. I like the idea of converting some of it to drinking water better, we already have the ability to do that (and are doing it.)
  18. The Saint, isn't that based on a well known old TV series? Val Kilmer was one of the very best. RIP, Val.
  19. Yes we really need controllable fusion like yesterday. I think we'll see it in our lifetime though, the EU has been making a lot of progress.
  20. Bad allergies earlier, now gone since the wind stopped.

  23. Look at this, this is going to happen. https://x.com/i/trending/1915031013295878203 UK Set to Experiment with Sun Dimming Against Climate Change Last updated 23 minutes ago The UK Government is reportedly preparing to approve geoengineering experiments aimed at mitigating global warming by reducing sunlight reaching the Earth. These experiments, which might include techniques like aerosol injection and cloud brightening, have sparked a mix of reactions from skepticism to outright opposition on social media. Critics are voicing concerns about the lack of transparency, potential global effects, and the adequacy of these methods in addressing climate change.
  24. Like I wrote above, this is happening whether we want it to or not. Nothing we can do to stop it and it actually needs to happen. This is on us, collectively as a society. https://x.com/i/trending/1915031013295878203 UK Set to Experiment with Sun Dimming Against Climate Change Last updated 21 minutes ago The UK Government is reportedly preparing to approve geoengineering experiments aimed at mitigating global warming by reducing sunlight reaching the Earth.
