I chased the lead supercell that dropped tennis ball sized hail and held on much longer than anyone thought it could. We caught this storm west of Red House, VA and stayed with it until we were east of Worsham. It started to cluster and line out but apparently if we stayed with it a bit longer we would have seen some dinner plates. None the less we saw some great classic supercell structure and various iterations of its wall cloud. Finally, a shelf cloud as the outflow took over.

Worst winter ever.
You got that right. I really can't get much worse than what we just went through as far as that goes. I am focused on severe now.

Not a good look on what is normally the happy hour run.

Wow, it is isn't common to see something that suppressed in later March. I guess it is possible, but I am hoping it is a fluke.

That last one looks fake. Like a zoomed in photo of one of those mini Christmas villages.
It really does but it is very real and those pines hold the snow well. It was taken on the north side of Burlington VT if I remember correctly

Not sure any of y’all are following but it’s worth it to give the NE Forum a look today. Their Obs thread for the most recent storm is extremely impressive, many places got 30-40+” of paste. Incredible pictures
When I lived in VT, the big ones were almost always in March. I took these in 2017 on 3/14 and 3/15:

I’m not billing up the threat but that’s easily the best look anywhere outside of the mountains has seen this year at this timeframe from the GEFS
Agreed. A lot to overcome this time of year of course. This is what we needed in February. Either way perhaps threading the needle may be possible.

Well - if you know what freezes over - i'll meet ya'll for a good plate of 'cue, burger, or a hazy IPA if that's your thing....lil' ol' Graham is coming around....there's even a little barcade we can rent out....do i smell a Spring Equinox party?
Yeah they just have the horrible racist Sheriff, that damn monument, and some Neo-Confederates hanging around, otherwise that is true. Anyway looking at 12z it still there.

When I fly back from Orlando that day they better have the dang highway plowed.
Honestly this is about the only type of event that would stand a chance of coming to fruition right now so you might as well embrace it while it lasts, which will probably be about 4 more hours.
That drive from Wake to Alamance county though.
LOL ridiculous although the last place I want to be stuck is in Graham

Yeah definitely a warmer run on the 12z GFS but I agree that would be the last window with any remote chance. The 12z op actually has back to back lows.

It went over to mostly snow but has since flipped back to more sleet and rain. It was fun for a moment:

Yea something interesting to watch. My parents are reporting flakes mixed with surprisingly heavy sleet (probably graupel) near 440 north of Raleigh. I told them if they could make a snowball from the crud on top of their outdoor table RDU has probably ended the snowless streak
Yeah we have snow mixing in now for sure:

I’m not there today. Any chance this gives RDU measurable snow to end the season blanking or is it just novelty?
I suppose they may register 0.1 but we shall see.

It is amazing how locked in the SER of death has been. We sure can't get that with a favorable pattern.

A wall cloud over Cary followed by a shelf over Raleigh. Got to love a little marginal magic:
