  1. Good to see stuff is making it to the ground quickly...even with the lighter returns. 12z RAOB from IAD only had a thin area of really dry air just below 850 mb so it shouldn't take too long to get rid of that.
  2. For the northern folks, the LWX 1.5° base reflectivity scan seems to show some echoes increasing to your west from Cascade MD through Taneytown...looks like the northern jackpot zone is beginning to take shape.
  3. Based off DOT cams, it appears as though some steady but very light snow has started in Glen Echo, Cabin John and Potomac.
  4. Remember to report your first flakes using mPING app on your smart phone. The data help radar meteorologists and operational staff understand where precipitation is making it to the ground!
  5. Thicker mid level cloud deck moving in up here in Reisterstown. 32/19
  6. Thicker cloud deck about to move in....bye sun!
  7. So many great stories ITT...absolutely love it. Helps us get through these dark times.
  8. Agreed. I started in meteorology but transferred to Geography and then went through the MS, Emergency Management program at Millersville. It's lead to a decent career. Big message is that you have to be comfortable with moving a fair distance for your first job. You might have to move cross country for a 'meh' position to put your time in. If you're going to stick with meteorology that's great...seriously the field isn't all doom and gloom like some make it out to be. You just have to find what keeps your interest going and push through hard. Take internships, do research and don't forget about working started help desk positions for things like Raytheon (they make AWIPS) or Michael Baker. My RA in college started in the private sector and it boosted his career quickly once he got into NWS.
  9. How do you place the soap? In a pantry hose or something?
  10. Heh, that western band is literally hugging I-91 for all it's worth.
  11. Man this is a beautiful event to witness, too bad it's not hitting DC -> BOS. Congrats all.
  12. So question for the group...any ideas why BOX hasn't extended the Blizzard Warning further west into RI? Providence and Newport are certainly meeting the criteria. I know it's for 3 consecutive hours, but conditions appear to be only worsening through midday.
  13. When, if ever, do you think we will have an ice free summer in the arctic?
  14. That was an epic few days with you, me and Anthony looking at the SREFs and ensembles.
  15. This is quite impressive. A cool summer that has owned my garden from start to finish.
  16. I don't know where else to put this:
