What you smell is New Jersey stanky air. Ain’t going anywhere…

Lol, nah I lived in NJ all my life.  Dealt with the Meadowlands and garbage smells before.  But up here we generally have pretty good air quality.  This is something different.

Forget the cooler weather. I need 80s with a dew point of 40 to dry everything out nicely. Need to paint the front porch and stain the back. Hell I might need to replace some wood now from it starting to rot in all the moisture. This is ridiculous now. I’m so beyond this crap. Lightning fried the aquastat control panel for our boiler. Can we just have some normal weather now?

Yeah in the last year or two our back deck has really begun to rot.  This kind of weather doesn't help, because the high humidity is just keeping the wood damp.

I've been noticing something too, that when we have this high humidity mixed with the rain, the air has been smelling really weird.  I thought it was just around my backyard or neighborhood, but even across town and beyond I smell it.  Should clear out with the low dewpoint airmass coming in soon.

The mental gymnastics are wild.  It's gotten so absurd there's no response to most of this stuff anymore.  I hate the heat and the fact we continue to warm but I don't deny it's existence.

I hear ya but we have to embrace change, it ain't going anywhere. I HATE heat and humidity, it's just not in my DNA, but I also can't bury my head in the sand to try to hide what our reality is these days.

I can't figure out where or when this shift in our forum happened.  You literally have people who downplay heat and will keep shifting their arguments just because they hate it themselves.  I just can't stand the contrary nature anymore.

I love this warmth, but does that mean I downplay our biggest blizzards or arctic fronts?  Of course not.

September heat hits different then if we had this in mid July. It’s like a sub 32 degree day in march

Then maybe it's me, but it felt absolutely no different at all.  94 today with the humidity was roasting.  If blindfolded, you could convince me I was back on vacation this year at the end of July.

Temperatures in our area certainly are oppressive but not really extreme heat such as upper 90s. We will see what the next few days bring.

Not a week or two ago people were talking about 90's being done with and no heat in the foreseeable future.  The goal-posts have kept moving as we approached this heatwave.  Not to mention, you don't need upper 90's this time of year for this to be considered "extreme."  It's after Labor Day, and these days are easily +10 to +15.

It feels no different than a mid-July night right now.

There are stats for this stuff you know…coolest in 4-6 years. Unless you have Alzheimer’s recent memory goes further back than 4 years…

Apparently some people are stuck on this idea that summer was an ice age.  I don't get it.

    Swamp ass.

I even shave my ass to help combat the never ending battle with swamp ass in NJ CFa subtropical summers.

I vastly prefer the dry, frozen tundra-ass one gets in a proper winter over the wet, humid subtropical marshland of summer.

But I'm referring more to the "it's September now so it won't feel that hot," narrative and the whole idea that a stretch of +10 temps in the 90's aren't noteworthy.

Coolest since 2017 and 2014 in NYC and 2018 and 2019 at Newark.  That 2009 summer is a tough act to follow. 2009 was also the last time Newark had back to back top 10 coolest June and July.

Yeah I think people are over-blowing how cool this summer has been.  Is it as bad as some recent years?  No, but you'd think we're in a mini ice age over here.

Since 2010 Sept has been much more summer like as opposed to the traditional start of fall. Recently Sept has been great month to hit the S. Jersey beaches, ocean water in the 70's & plenty of days in the 80's even late in the month.

My personal clock doesn't hit fall until OCT 1st.

Exactly.  I actually like warmth and AN temps until Halloween.  After that I understand winter is going to be arriving.

just so glad this weather has returned without all the smoke it came with last time

I hope it stays that way.  So nice seeing deep blue skies again and the mountains in the distance aren't hazy.

I would say summer in my area has not been bad. Yes July has been warm but June was comfortable. August will tell the tale.

Yeah we didn't use the AC once in June, which I'm not sure has happened before.

Pretty crazy how today feels though.  Not only low dews, but 50's tonight.  You could convince me it was the first week of September if the calendar still didn't say July.

Ha True.   But always seems like August is more tolerable-probably a combo of lowering sun angle and dropping daily average high temps...

Depends, August can be just as bad, look at last year.  Even September 2015 comes to mind.

this is the first weekend this summer that my extended forecast does not have rain showers in the forecast

8 weekends gone already and most to crappy clouds and showers...awful beach season

Yeah hope it stays that way.  I was just mentioning yesterday how it's been pretty bad timing on the weekends.

  14. Since midnight about 1.75" here, got slammed during the early morning hours with some good rain and heavy thunder.

I gotta say, this mediocre weekend trend has gotten old fast.  I think this is the 6th weekend in a row that was either overcast or had heavy storms.  Most of Northwest NJ and into NY state has had plenty of rain at this point.  I love tracking convection in the summer but we need some longer breaks in between to alleviate the flooding concerns.
