So many straws are being grasped at in the January 6-7 storm thread right now. I threw in the towel 24-36 hours ago, but now the many of the other miserable sods around here are staring relative failure in the face.

    Me...

The main idea all week has been for the we’re seeing today to slide right off the coast and a return flow ahead of the next lp. There is the other high building over Canada, but that seems disconnected from the cold we’re seeing today (and too far north). Maybe the higher elevations can still win on cad, though.

Higher elevations lose cad the quickest.

You bastard! I am only at 366 feet (roof of my house will put my at 380 feet I suppose...)

Mine is actually 490'.  I was a couple of blocks off.  Pretty sure that your latitude will crush me this weekend.

For those of you that want to nailbite even more about elevation - this is the Maryland LiDAR viewer

    https://geodata.md.gov/topoviewer/

Cool tool if nothing else - REALLY high-res data there. I think @mappy might have been the one to post it a long while ago. For map geeks, can get lost for hours in just scrolling around.

I just zoomed in to the roof of my house and it's 508'.

  5. This kind of reminds of a storm in February, 2005.  We were all wondering if it would be rain or snow and it rolled in as snow.  Ji was so happy because the precip hit a wall just northeast of his house and dumped for a few hours until the precip finally saturated north of there.  It was in and out in a hurry but it was a quick 6" of snow.

Hopefully this one is a similar outcome.

  6. Good or bad, the sun was at perhilion last night so we are at the time of year when our sunrises begin getting earlier.  Personally, I'm always disappointed when we don't get a decent snow event from mid-December to mid-January because when it snows this time of year, the evenings and mornings seem to drag on forever.

Let’s just hope they are in business in 2 weeks. Lol, but seriously at the same time.

Damn, I didn’t know that they were struggling. At the same time, I haven’t heard anything at all from them either. There was a time when I liked their stuff better than Black Flag’s.

  8. The 6z gfs gives us some hope, but I’m praying that it isn’t the high water mark for the weekend model runs. Reading negativity, regardless of whether it’s warranted or not, is getting old. Over 700 days now and still counting…
