Signal is there. Very interesting to say the least.

    .

Yes, later this week & next week should bring well below normal temps to most of the eastern half of the country.

The GEFS & EPS at 12z today suggest that we get on the snow board early this year!

  2. The CTP afternoon discussion today gave a good summary of the potential coastal storm this weekend. The models of course are portraying a wide variety of storm tracks. It will be interesting to watch this storm develop over the next few days.

The 18z GFS today says that a good portion of CTP gets some snow this weekend! 1DDDC732-E713-4573-A5AE-90E5FB3E7251.thumb.png.5ab69daffd2488005c68bf88e9fc1bac.png

Looks like first freeze of season at Millersville. Let the games begin.

    .

    Let the games begin indeed!

The latest Euro weeklies look fantastic from now through the end of the run through the first week of December. The trough is in the east, with a ridge in the west & higher heights up top near the pole. This run features temps below normal for the eastern half of the US for the next 6 weeks. The 46 day snow map, for what it’s worth, shows all of CTP getting on the board by the end of this run on December 3rd. It has near 3 inches of snow in the southern part of CTP & closer to 6 inches north of I-80 & near I-99.

By the way, there is a chance of an interesting coastal storm the last few days of October that we need to watch !

I'd like to introduce everyone to a new and most welcome guest that will be arriving this evening, and will be staying in our area for a while.....

    Her name is Autumn.

She's quite a colorful individual and looks to be a refreshing change from what we're used to.

On behalf of everyone here (except that Schuylkill county dude ;)).....we welcome you.  Enjoy your stay!

    Nut

    Yes, welcome Fall !!!

It sounds like the cooler weather is here to stay for the next few weeks.

The step down towards winter is finally underway!

  5. It’s great to see the Fall thread underway!

The cool temperatures this weekend are a welcome relief from the 90’s that we had to endure this past week.

The rain this weekend from Gordon’s remnants, followed possibly from the impacts of Florence later next week could be a massive problem for Central PA.

Already over 1.25”. I think MDT gets 5.5”+.

This looks like that Jan 2016 NAM storm.

Yes!  I was just thinking the same thing when I saw the posts of the weather models from earlier today.

I wonder if it will ever be possible to top that 30 inch storm snow total at MDT ?

I didn't hear it, but my wife said it dumped here. It's amazing it missed you

MDT had .73 of rain overnight.

It seems like we will get a few more tenths of rain the next few hours.

It is only 60 degrees & it feels like October out right now.

Latest HRRR is giving Harrisburg an inch of rain the next 18 hours.....it must be wrong.

We finally got some rain in the Harrisburg area last night. It poured for a few hours overnight. It now breezy & a little chilly out for early June.

Big storm 7 miles to my south, and we’ll get nada. Sunday night looks to be my only hope for real precip, crazy after 5 days of 70% pops.

Yes, I agree the Harrisburg area had 60 to 80 % pops for rain most of the week, but has received little rain to show for it.

Thank goodness this is not winter because many of us from around the turnpike on north would need talked off of the ledge !

  10. I have had enough of the rain this week!

However, I just found myself looking at the radar, wishing that a snowstorm was incoming with the precip that is currently developing to our South that is crawling up the coast. It would be awesome to get a week of precip like this in the winter. We would be buried in snow. Ok, back to reality now !

I am looking forward to a week of sunny & dry weather with temps in the 70’s. That should not be too much to ask for in May!

Northeast Cumberland County got smacked. My department handled over 30 incidents for service, which we received in about 10 minutes. I'm sure djr will report in ( not sure if he has power) his road had about 20 trees across it. My nephews house ( which I built and lived in for 10 years) had a tree go through his roof. Pretty crazy storm.

It sounds like you guys got hit hard by that storm. We had a few small branches come down, but nothing too bad despite the strong wind.

Back at 6:10 snow squall #2 moved in and through the area.  Heavy snow with huge flakes for about five minutes.  With the wind and temp around 37 degrees it really did feel like mid-winter.  I wonder if we're on pace to set a record for the most number of days in the month (April) where a trace or more of snow was observed?  I've lost count, but certainly it's been at least six different times / days when snow was seen flying through the air.

Did you guys know that Minneapolis and surrounding areas recorded between 12 and 24" of snow over the weekend?  Blizzard warnings were issued as winds howled sustained at 25 gusting to 40mph with near zero visibility.  My son was on a layover there the night before, and they got as far as the plane being de-iced before the snow got too heavy and visibilities dropped to below 0.125 miles...which in turn shut down the airport.  He said even the city itself seemed caught off-guard by the magnitude of the snow.  That upper air energy and pocket of arctic air is I think what ended up triggering our squalls today.

Minneapolis & Green Bay got hammered with historic snow. Their radar & Blizzard Warnings were entertaining to watch as the storm crushed them with snow.

  13. Another wintry April day !

I saw at least 3 rounds of snow showers today in Harrisburg & Marysville.

We should have actually had more April snow if the storm on the 7th had hit us. A couple of days before it looked likely that we would get 3-6 inches of snow, but it ended up missing because of too much cold air that pushed the front to our south.

This late winter/early spring has been memorable & has become one that we will mention for years to come.

Some snowflakes mixing in with the lingering rain here. Couple 511 cams just up the mountain on US 22 showing a coating on the ground. It was nice knowing the brief two days of early summer warmth haha.

Does anyone think that the snow showers in WV, OH & IN will make it all the way through CTP, including the LSV tonight?

Going to be a 40 degreee high temp difference tomorrow lololol

What a crazy swing in temps from yesterday to this am !

I spent most of the day in the yard yesterday in what felt like mid summer, & now it feels like early winter.

CTP even added the chance of this heavy rain storm possibly mixing with snow showers at the end of the event !

  16. Light snow is ongoing in Marysville.

Some flakes are trying to stick to the cartops now.

The radar continues to fill to the west in CTP. I’m hoping for a covering on the grass & a car topper.

I’m going to enjoy it this evening. It could be our last flakes until next fall!

  17. Tomorrow into Tuesday am could be the last chance to see snow flakes for many of us until next Fall.

CTP has a 70 % chance of a rain/snow mix changing to all snow tomorrow night, but not amounting to much for anyone. The radar looks interesting out in the Midwest & it should be just cold enough for some flakes. Maybe MDT will squeeze out a few more tenths of an inch to pad the stats.
