I agree with the certain amount of time passed. In theory it makes sense, but I wonder if that is too vague for the govt? But yeah, the pressure will mount after a certain amount of time passes.

I think the governors that have the mandates in place will have to see a substantial drop in positives before anything is removed. Not sure how substantial will be defined.
I know I keep beating a dead horse here, but until they drop the cycle number that’s considered positive, it will last longer that it needs too. Even Fauci says it’s too high, but it hasn’t gained any traction to lower the number to something sensible.

We don't need to debate it here. I am a cynic and a bit of a conspiracy theorist when it comes to govt power. We will see what happens. Fingers crossed I am wrong for everyone's sake.

    I’m right there with you.
I subscribe to the Ronald Reagan adage that the scariest words in the English language are “ I’m from the government and we’re just here to help you”.

If you think about what they are actually eliminating with body scans and shoes being taken off, it's not 9/11 type threats. Those were eliminated with cockpit door reinforcements.

The "threat" they are mitigating is maybe a random wack job who tries and puts C4 in his shoe or tries to hide a non-metal knife in his pocket that metal detectors wouldn't pick up....or someone who wants to light a bottle of shampoo on fire by hiding flammable liquid in it. When you stop to think how ridiculous these are compared to the extra steps beyond just walking through the metal detector and putting your bags through x-ray machine (these were the pre-9/11 procedures), it starts to make more (or less?) sense.

And I’m not sure how 4 oz is a danger and 3 isn’t. That’s the kind of stupid shit that pisses people off. Kinda like a mask mandates to outside when you 1000 feet away from another human. Ridiculous stuff like that make people mad and not want to do the stuff that does make some sense.

MCO is awful to get out of...  at least it was in 2019.   A lot of people get that pre-screen thing. I forget what it is called

We’re not on the Magical Express. They stopped getting your bags you and delivering them to your room as part of Covid mitigation. I hired a van service to get us to the Beach Club.

Bingo.  One of the nasty flu epidemics had a rushed shot (50 years ago?) and a small number of people got guillain-barre killing the vaccine.

1976. It was a variant of the swine flu they had a vaccine for. Small number affected, but enough it was pulled.

I'm definitely not, but it has been normalized so we don't feel like it's a huge deal anymore.

We think that hopping a flight from Chicago to Denver requires us to get body scanned and shoes taken off while standing in long security lines. 99.9% of the 9/11 risk was eliminated when they reinforced the cockpit doors.

    Yup.

I had to dump a 4 oz bottle of anti fog glasses cleaner this morning I had in my carry on because it exceeded the 3 oz maximum for carry on liquids.
Yea, a 59 yo grey headed man with a wife and 2 kids in tow is a danger with anti fog cleaner 1 oz over an arbitrary limit.

Jet blue is awesome....I fly them to Buffalo every year when I meet up with old college buddies for a football game (unfortunately not this year). But they are always so easy and I don't think I've had any delays with them. I did delta once or twice and they suck....got delayed 2 hours leaving BUF airport.

Their first class or what they call Mint, is really nice. Seats basically lay flat, lots of room, and good food. I’ve flown it several times coast to coast and on a red eye cross country once.

Give me JetBlue any day over SW   I used to love them...      The whole seating groups etc bugs the crap out of me.

I love Jet blue. Used to fly the non stop to San Diego a lot.

SW has a direct to Orlando out of PVD and I have a zillion points.

Airport was a tomb this morning. First flight I’ve been on since this mess started. Most of the shops were closed in the airport. Let’s see what MCO looks like.

One of the guys that works for me went to Atlanta last month. He said Logan was dead dead but when he got to Hartsfield it was packed like a regular day.

We can’t gloss over the fact that no mRNA vaccine has ever been approved for use in humans. This is uncharted territory. All in six months under something titled “warp speed.” Is anyone surprised people are wary? That doesn’t make them idiots.

Just so long as people don’t get a big dose of guillain-barré syndrome or some other nasty auto/hyper immune issue.
It shouldn’t, it’s rare as hens teeth, but it can happen.

Per airlines, airplanes are extremely safe.  Why would they require a vaccine?

I’m talking about travel and not having to quarantine once you get there.
And I’m posting on a SW flight right now. Somewhere just off Cape May if I read my geography correctly.

ID card requirement is gonna be tricky....hippa act stuff. That's also a bit of a despotic road you don't want to go down.

Once the vaccine has been widely available for a couple months, you just lift all restrictions. If people don't want to get it, it's on them and it is not up to society to cater to them.

Hippa doesn’t really apply. That only applies to giving information to health care entities.
I’ve already seen Ticketmaster start to roll out the idea of an app that shows if you’ve had a negative test or have the vaccine to get into concerts.
Everyone needs to get used to the idea that we will have to show “papers”. I don’t like it much, but I think if you want to go to Fenway, Gilllette, or get on an airplane, you’ll have to show proof of a negative test or vaccine. Might not be forever, but I’m pretty sure we’ll be dealing with these intrusions for several years.

The government won’t outright mandate it for adults, but it will be done by coercion if you want to go about your life.
I have no problem taking it. I just don’t want to be first.
I will say that if this mRNA strategy actually works and is safe over the long haul, my god this is truly a revolution in vaccine technology. Theroreticlly, we could vaccinate for all kinds of things. mRNA is easy to make and you can make buckets of it really fast. The biggest hurdle is the storage issue.

Once there is widespread availability of the vaccine (i.e. no waiting for anyone who wants it), there should be no restrictions. Hopefully that means by the time we get into warm season 2021.

You’re more optimistic then I am. I think it will be into 2022 really.
But I’m one of “those” that do not trust the government for much of anything.

Of course. Even Fauci said that after the vaccine we'd still have to be careful for awhile. Whatever that means. The message isn't always clear, but I got the sense he was implying masks and social distancing still. F that.

Said in a thick NY accent:

we’ll still need public health meh-zuahs for awhile.

i.e. Wear the mask and distance till I say so

If they wait until there are no positive test, and using that horse shit PCR test, they’ll lay me out at the parlor in a mask

I mean it’s very much still Autumn...normal high round these parts is still about 50-51 degrees.  I’m not expecting any type of winter time pattern at this point...so what’s so shitty about this weather/pattern currently?  I mean besides the 70’s for 7 days last week (which was fine by me), what’s so unusually shitty for mid November? A month from now I’d be feeling differently, but it’s still only mid November.

I just find the weather in November a little useless, like April is useless. Fall is over and real winter is still a month away. Oh well, happens every year.
