How the heck can New Bern get 8" with Greenville up the road only 2"? I can't imagine a gradient like that here on the coastal plain for such a short distance but of course anything's possible. When's the last time you got 8" down there?

I don't remember ever getting that much although we were close in 2010.

With a rare widespread Gulf Coast snow event possible, some short accounts from the legendary February 1895 snowstorm are below:

Wasn't the 1899 one even heavier and colder?

Nevermind, I just looked it up. It wasn't much snow but the extreme cold that it was known for.

I feel really good about this one. Euro with a huge storm and then the GFS follows up with a huge storm, too. Not as big as the Euro, but still a big coastal bomb. Euro is usually good at sniffing out the big ones in the long range. Maybe it might not be as big as the Euro and GFS show, but I think this will be the biggest one we have had here in NC in a while.

I like the Euro better as it puts the storm farther off the coast and gives just about everyone a good dumping.

  4. We had everything last night. Went from sleet to freezing rain back to sleet to plain old rain back to sleet and snow and back to rain. Temp during all this went from 31 to 39 after midnight, back down to 31, back up to 35, and finally down to 32 where it was when I woke up. Ended up with approximately .60" in the bucket.
