GFS and EURO are so apart but both get significant snow into PA.
They do major different things after the low hits Missouri it looks like to me.

ah, the good 'ol classic OBX to Bermuda to just south of Boston track.
I literally laughed out loud and startled my wife.

GFS to me looks like it’s inching closer to the Euro’s latest evolution.

Tom Russell (CBS 21 out of Harrisburg) still says snow turns to mix Sunday night then a little wraparound. Downplaying.

Note to self: hit up the state store Thursday

Can confirm. I DM'd this guy for motel ideas for a weekend away with his wife and he set me up in a five star suite along Rte 30 in Breezewood. You're in capable hands.

Thanks. It depends on how many nights they want to put me up in a motel. I'm not sure they'll want to spring for an extra night. I can't believe we've gone over a month without a big storm, and now, on my possible departure day, we may be in one...ugh. That's why I had hoped it was going to be a Monday-Tuesday event instead of perhaps a Sunday--Monday one.
Yeah, for you I hope it's late Sunday too. If you can get out Saturday and need any help for a motel, DM me.

My new company is going to call me to set up travel arrangements for my new job, so I'm trying to figure out timing of my flight, most likely (hopefully) early Sunday. I want to try and get out before the snow flies if possible so as not to put my family in any kind of danger driving me to the airport and back home again after dropping me off.
What looks, and I know it's early and much could change, to be the best estimate of onset of precipitation? I will be flying out of Scranton or Allentown.
I'd try to get out Saturday, honestly, to be safe if you can. If a big storm is coming, airlines might not transition the regional jets just to get stuck for a few days without the hub load.

You want to lose it?Oh, no, I just meant what features should I be aware of that can make it go haywire. As a Red Sox fan, I'm always looking for what cause negatively impact ...

So what do we need to look for to lose this storm?

I liked the ridge out west better on the 00Z GFS compared to 18Z and 12Z GFS. I think it was a step towards the Euro.
Yea agreed.

It's getting such that the ridges and valleys come hourly in ma lr. Quite the vacuum there.

#2 model for verification, the Ukie, says NO to Monday.
That likely means the Euro is a miss, too.

By true definition, a trace is when you confirm precip hits the ground, ie a rain drop or snow flake etc. 0.1” of snow or rain is enough to officially measure on a snow stick or a rain gauge. Hope that helps.
Makes perfect sense - thanks!
-
What's the difference between a trace and .1"? That I'm sure is a dumb question, but I don't really know exactly. .1" is ... nothing lol.

This event is just getting started. There is more precip developing now in western and central PA. There is also a lot of precip to our south and west that will move through as snow to start and then become a mix by morning.
Most models today didn’t even have precip starting in Harrisburg until near midnight.Don’t think it’ll be pure snow unfortunately - I don’t buy the HRRR at all. CTP’s 9 pm forecast discussion writes off anything of substance due to temps.
-
The truck out front had some snow on the hood for about 30 minutes. Win?

-
CTP sees this is a nothingburger - just took out any ice and less than .5” for MDT. They’re looking at the lack of moisture.
-
CTP not buying HRRR - it’s cut Harrisburg down to less than an inch.

-
is that a 997 over the benchmark? Hold me.
-
CTP says MDT gets 1-2" of snow/sleet. I'll take closer to 1" - there's just no precip available to do anything worthwhile. A week of great winter opportunities go pretty much bust, unfortuantely. Maybe February will be better ...

Let's hope the 12z GFS isn't a heartbreaker.
