What is it like @canderson down in TX right now?

Bad. 12” snow for my parents but power is out all over - go look at outage maps from DFW to Houston. My brother!s power has been out since 3 am and every sink has frozen pipes now. He left them dripping but they still froze solid.

Parents might get to below zero tonight. Winds in the 20s too. Keep Texans in your thoughts. They and things there aren’t built for this.

Posting Winter Storm Warnings for the total entirety of TX is a little laughable. A few inches of snow doesn't even warrant an advisory and having a Winter Storm Warning for areas such as Brazoria County on south is just a total exaggeration of the current situation. This is obviously just an attempt at filling the coffers with federal money.

Texas laughs at your excessive heat warnings when it’s 95, yo.

0zs not lookin good for Tuesday so far so I went and looked at tellies as I had some time to dig a bit. AO spike and NAO to +1 ish and IMO look to be the likely reason for storm track heading west for this week as a result. That said they look like they may head twds neutral starting later this week so I’m hoping prime climo can help us as we get beyond this spike. I now fear this week may trend worse instead of better and not sure things can stay under us. Sure hope I’m wrong but we know how hard it been without the NAO and we’re losing it.  Hope he comes back soon.

    Boo

If we get more than 4” snow by Friday it’ll be a miracle imo. Half of Texas gets a better winter week than us!

That 84hr image looks like a disaster for DFW. Reminds me the Dec'13 cobblestone ice storm. Massive power outage if that verifies! What worries me even more is GFS is basically showing a same picture with CMC not too far off:cry:

If it helps no models have any idea what is happening here in central Pennsylvania the next 48 hours. They can’t handle these storms.

The lows going to ride the boundary. Unless that low is tracking across southern pa with a high to our north and our vulnerability to CAD, I can’t for the life of me see a low tracking south of DC, a weak one at that, is going to send a driving rainstorm through Harrisburg. This has ice written all over it

    .

CAD always last longer than modeled. Ice is all but guaranteed- just hope the rates are heavier.

Depending on how far below freezing the rain falls dictates how fast the accrual process is.  Currently, with MDT forecast to get 0.87" of freezing rain, it is highly unlikely that all of that rain ends up accruing.  If the temp is 30 you won't get anywhere near 0.87" of accrual.  I have no idea how cold it would have to be to even reach 0.50" of accretion.  25 degrees?  20 degrees?  Actually, another factor affecting accretion would be the intensity of the rain.  Light rain has a much higher chance to accrue versus moderate or heavy rain.

Correct, the heavier the rate the less accretion.
