Very encouraging the euro still has a big storm and its very close to mostly or all snow for most. 850s are at +1 during the height of the storm

Also for those not familiar Ray's winter storm archive is a good resource though he stopped in 2013

Then there was a 50+ degree rainstorm that washed all that snow off the ice, clogging street drains and causing flooding. It was a horrific period, and no one was ready for it.
I would love to get back to back storms like Feb 94 but yeah don't need all the ice

The way i remember it was that amazing crippling ice storm on a friday night during the first week in January. In February 1994 we had close to 10 inches of snow on a Tuesday and another 10 inches 2 days later. Amazing together with below zero temp that month too
93-94 had everything. I was home for the early Jan storm and temps were in the low 20s with freezing rain and I remember watching them creep up a degree an hour thinking it's going to take 8 or more hours til we reach the freezing mark. Then I went back to central PA for the most incredible 2 months of snow I've ever seen.

The radar is brutal right now. The snow is so close to NYC but it's hitting a brick wall.
Only flurries being reported 50 miles south of nyc

The new GFS 12z was on crack. That would be biblical.
The 18z was still good but more realistic

We did well on the first day of the storm because we were just 5 miles north of the rain/snow line, but on the second day, the heaviest action shifted east we ended up with just over a foot total, but 8 inches was the total for the first day and 5 inches on the second day. Farmingdale got 20 inches.
I had around 8 each day but the 2nd half definitely underperformed, I do remember gettting a blizzard warning

At our expense? Not that it means much ATM
Yeah we get an inch or 2 and temps go below zero after. It will change many times I'm sure

I saw several forecasts which included those years as analog years. I think the vast majority of people(non mets) who come up with their own winter forecasts are ones who love snow/cold. And I think their bias towards cold and snow influences their forecasts. The majority of seasonal forecasts that are posted within the various forums here and elsewhere online are winter forecasts. There are not many spring/summer/fall forecasts posted.
The same happens when untrained mets look at model runs. Some find a snowstorm hit in every run.
I feel like its been closer to 94-95 with the warmth and rain minus the early season snowstorm. Maybe we'll get one good hit like the early feb storm that year. Central Park had .2" going into Feb and ended with 11.8. Nearly all of it in the one storm

Could easily be warm and mostly rain and then back to coldish and dry

and early 1990s!
I remember before the 93 blizzard just assuming we'd never see another 12"+ storm again

Even if we do switch to a colder and snowier pattern, no one can deny how much it has been getting pushed back. I remember when it was supposed to happen around Christmas, and even back then people said it might happen earlier.
We're in the colder pattern right now. Its just nothing severe and it looks to be dry for the foreseeable future
