You learn quick on pond ice. 

Snow ended around 8:00 am. 1/4" on all surfaces. Looks like winter at least.

Something about Arctic air masses which appear to give a clearer view of the stars at night. 

Local forecast has high temps sub-freezing for the next 48-72 hours out my way....

We might see some ponds ice over.

Can confirm...pouring again in southwest Morris County. The lower areas of my property are rapidly becoming wetlands.

Property slopes north to south from 750' to 720'. 

From my own anecdotal perspective, to date, this has been a colder Oct-Dec period than last year. We used one tank of heating oil so far; last year the first tank lasted until mid-January. 

Side note, oil per barrel just hit sub-$45.00; I am hoping with great anticipation for the relaxation in diesel/home heating oil. The $2.67 I just paid, is $.50 higher per gallon than this time last year. What I am unsure of is it demand driven or are refineries running at lower capacity or is it the lag time due to the higher summer/fall oil prices causing the increase in price? 

Very fine, light snow. Grass/trees crusted in white. Mood flakes; just in time for Christmas!

Well over 2" at home in Chester. Attempting to drive to Hackensack...1:30 so far and I'm not thru Paterson. 

The Passaic is very high thru Fairfield. Flooding should be imminent. 

Went outside at 2:45 am. Heavy rain. Strong winds. Surprisingly warm. Should be a fun rush hour commute!

The Passaic River in Lincoln Park is just below bankfull. 3-4" will flood the low parts of that and many other low lying towns in north jersey. 

1-2" of rain as progged will push the major North Jersey rivers...I'm looking at you Passaic...up and over the banks. FYI to any of your family members in totowa/Wayne/Lincoln park. 

There's something special about our southern friends getting multiple years worth of snow in one shot, that I find impressive. 

Sadly, they are ill prepared for 1/10th of what is projected to fall. Hopefully it warms up quickly for them. 

I'd like to see some semblance of high pressure in Quebec. Without it, I'd worry whatever cranks in the southern stream will cut. Apps runner or sorts. 

A needed day of fresh air and warm temps, relatively speaking. 

If Forkys correct, flooding in North Jersey from the major rivers should be watched closely. The Passaic is already forecasted to have minor flooding. 

Rain started around 5:00; picked up in earnest around 7:30. Pouring ever since. No idea how much...

Nexrad radar is ridiculous right now. Also indicates 2.5-3" in my area. Not sure on accuracy. 

8 degrees at 4:30 am. I didn't think I would get single digits. 

Getting colder throughout the morning. 17 sunny degrees out this way.

A snow squall is in the forecast for NYC Wed. afternoon, with a coating to less than an inch of snow possible. Our salt spreaders are ready across the five boroughs, and we will pre-salt elevated areas & overpasses ahead of potential snow.

Jersey too. Per NJ.com, Murphy has over 100 trucks ready to go!

IMHO, it has everything to do with the obvious bloat of government and the lack of clear directives, but I digress and leave that conversation for a different forum. Cheers!

I take no position with the city and points east; but I said it last night and all I have heard this morning confirms it, Murphy owns this. He closed all non-essential offices at 2:30 p.m. His "Office of Emergency Management" was on the job and monitoring the situation since 7:00 am per the Governor's website. They screwed up, they own it; hopefully they will be more prepared next time.

Great. I'm heading from Tempe Wick to 202N shortly. 

Was a mix at 5:45 when I went outside to start digging out. Flipped to heavy snow at 6:30 and has not stopped. Ended last night at 8", compacted down to about 6". Fresh inch now on top.
