  1. 12z GFS was brutally cold. The ironic thing is guess what happened in 1985 at the same time frame today’s 12z gfs indicated the brutal cold! Man, 1984-1985 just keeps popping up all over the pace this winter. It may not happen like that, but gotta say it’s uncanny how common these two winters are. For sure a great analog to this year!

  2. Hey everyone, it’s that time of year. I read a lot but seldom post. I don’t really have a lot to add, Carver, Holston, John, and the rest of you guys do such a great job! Gotta say the current stretch this December has been very similar to 1984. The only thing that really stands out is that in the chart Carver posted of December 1984 temps, December 6-8 was solidly below normal at TRI with a sub freezing high temp of 30 and low of 10 on the 7th. That is a big difference from this year, as so far we haven’t been anywhere near those numbers. (My coldest temp is 20 so far). The rest of the month of December 1984 was much above normal though. I realize that no 2 years are exactly the same though, so that may have little bearing on the rest of the winter. I would imagine though that this December will end up being even warmer than 1984. Hopefully it will flip similar to what happened in January of 1985. Time will tell I guess.

    Quick update here….
The Dr’s successfully removed the tumor from my wife’s head today. They were able to get all of it out. Dr’s believe she will make a full recovery with no limitations. The difference in her from 2pm to 7pm this afternoon was amazing. 1:30 she came out of surgery, by 7pm she was sitting up in her bed eating potato soup and chicken fingers from O’Charley’s. You would have never known this person just had a lime size tumor removed from her head.

Thanks for all of your prayers, we really appreciated it.

Good to hear the surgery went well! Will keep praying for her full recovery.

    Prayer request……

This week has been the worst week of my life and my family could use your prayers.

Sunday morning at 5am my wife had a seizure. A couple of hours later at UTMC we were informed she had a large mass on her brain. She will have surgery in the coming weeks to remove it after her brain recovers and the swelling goes down. As of now the Dr’s feel really good that this mass/tumor is not cancerous but they will not know for sure until they do a biopsy. I know this might not be the right thread for this but it’s probably the one most of us look at the most. Thank you for your prayers.

Praying for your wife and your family!

  5. Looks like there could be a few patches of light snow beginning to mix in over W TN. Assuming it’s reaching the ground, of course. Just amazing how cold this airmass is and how it resembles a wintertime anafront! MRX latest afd talked about that very thing-how most of the moisture was anafrontal. I can’t recall seeing something quite this strong so late into April.

  6. I noticed the same thing John. There are YouTube videos of the broadcast from 1993 in Knoxville showing the airport receiving 15in and those amounts that you mentioned above. It’s almost like every 10yrs they decrease it a little (maybe to fit the climate change narrative, uggh,  but hey that’s all conspiracy that they would do that, right LOL) At this rate by the time my kids are my age, they will say there was 6in at most.
