  1. Ended up with a surprise 0.4 inches yesterday. Pretty much gone now except for a few shady spots.
  2. Steady light snow 24 degrees. Nice surprise.
  3. I'm actually gonna be down there eating tonight. I'll have to check that out.
  4. Bottomed out at 9 degrees this morning. A couple of sub zero nights next week, maybe we see some river ice by middle of next week? Haven't seen that for a few years.
  5. Four days without a post. Pretty much sums up things.
  6. Surprisingly in Central Park, the period Jan 1968-Dec 1977 is the lowest 10 year period at 18.7 inches. Barely beating out Jan 1983-Dec 1992 at 18.8 inches. If you go by seasonal 10 year periods, July 1 through June 30 the results might differ slightly. Of course the golden 10 year period was Jan 2009 through December 2018 which averaged 38.6 inches of snow in the Park.
  7. It's funny how many people seem to miss that point completely. We keep raising the bar against the averages by recalculating every ten years. A better comparison would be to compare the current monthly average temperatures against the average temperature from 1870-1979. I use that period because the noticeable increases seem to accelerate in the 1980's. If you use those instead of the NEW 1991-2020 averages this would just be another above normal month. December 2024 would also be above normal.
  8. Can you match up the monthly temperature averages, for the 1970's and 1980's against the 2000's and 2010's? I'm curious how much colder the 1970-1989 period was compared to the much snowier period of 2000-2019 period.
  9. Well the 1970's and the 1980's were the lowest decades in NYC recorded history. They were anomalous for their low totals. 1970's 21.3 and the 1980's 20.2. Although especially the 1970's were much colder than our new climate.
  10. I'm splitting hairs here but actually the correct figure for 1951-2020 is 26.3 inches. By adding 30 year averages in ten year increments you're including several decades three times in the average while only using others once or twice. I get your original point though and as always it's a good one.
  11. Curious why you use 25 inches as the average for NYC? The 30 year average 1991-2020 is 29.8 inches. Even if you use the historical average (1870-2024) which includes two of the least snowiest winters in recorded history, 22/23 & 23/24, the average is 28.5 inches. Are you using an average outside those date ranges?
  12. 1.0 inches, surprised it was even that much, final measurement probably at 8:30 from the looks of the radar. 13.2 now for the season.
  13. 1.0 inch even here at 7:30, 25° light snow still falling. 13.2 now for the season.
  14. It doesn't matter, I was just mocking it anyway. Sarcasm doesn't come through in texts.
  15. Well that's the 10:1. Show me the Kuchera and I'll bet some area in our forum is pushing an inch and a half.
  16. 33.0 average for the first 7 days of January would have been above average a couple of decades ago. My how things have changed and how we've forgotten.
  17. Not sure but, we really need to build a huge manmade lake in northeast Pennsylvania. Maybe from Scranton to the NYS border, the bigger the better. I know you and several others have a house there but, to hell with the Poconos.
  18. I agree totally. Since he changed his name to MJO five of the last six winters have been bad, three of the six all time top ten bad. I can't stand the Mutts, but I want that name back. It may be the only thing that can save us. He also used snow88 way back in the day. I think that name brought us our best winters. There's an obvious correlation and powers at work that he may not even be aware of.
  19. 0.5 here and 12.2 for the season. Saturday should bring another 2-30 inches according to the last three runs of the goofus.
  20. Ended up with 0.5 when nothing was expected. 12.2 now for the season.
