  1. D.C. area has been snowless for a decade. Yes they had a few minor to moderate events in January but it was also 80 degrees there a coupe of days ago. The 7.8 inches they've had so far this season is also double their normal year to date. Other than the oddball event that will pop up every several years there, they are basically Norfolk now, while NYC becomes them and Boston becomes NYC. It's an ever progressing line and sustained winters will be fewer and far between.
  2. Lighter precip back up to 34.2 with just light rain. This thing sucks but didn't expect anything anyway, have to admit was hoping for a miracle in the back of my mind.
  3. 33.8 mixed rain and snow for a solid hour now, it can't decide which to do. SENY I'm at 600 feet elevation. Anyone above 800 feet with the lower temp right now should do OK once this batch gets to you.
  4. 34.2 and a 50/50 mix of rain and snow. So much precip already wasted. So close and so far.
  5. 34.3, what was mixed rain snow briefly all rain from highland mills NY. 600 msl, 30 miles west of Danbury. I don't think I'll be adding anything to the 13.5 I have for the season. The nightmare continues.
  6. Expecting everything tomorrow. Snowfall wise anything more than 2 inches would be a very pleasant surprise provided it's not washed away at some point.
  7. I doubt it ends well for Boston either. The proximity to the coast has been killing them the last two years, plus being at 20 feet above sea level.
  8. I agree with everything you said, except the like part in the beginning.
  9. What streak are the metro people now trying to break? The bogus 1 inch streak was already broken. Are we now onto the two inch streak?
  10. After 17 hours of almost non stop snow the finally tally is 2.5 inches. That's about what I received in an hour on January 7th.
  11. Been snowing almost continuously since 10:30 last night until about 3:30 today. After 17 hours of almost non stop snow the finally tally is 2.5 inches. That's about what I received in an hour on January 7th. Beautiful out though.
  12. Amazing in these small storms how that extra half inch to an inch always appears over Newark then disappears in the 5 miles to Central Park and reappears again in the 5 miles to LaGuardia. It must have something to do with the high mountain ranges in between Newark and LaGuardia.
  13. Of course we all know that from the observations after 7:00 there had to be at least several tenths of an inch (0.3-0.5 maybe) added to the 1.4 inch storm total at the park but their history is not to add to the total and just ignore it like it never happened. It will probably be the case again unless someone that cares is measuring at the Park today. The only time they seemed to get somewhat accurate measurements was when they had the Conservatory doing the measurements at the Park several years ago, and that lasted 4-5 years. Not sure why that relationship ended.
  14. It was a bogus record to begin with. Two consecutive days last February with 0.9 inches and they kept going on about how it hasn't snowed an inch for two years. Definitely a bad stretch but what's the difference 0.9 or 1 inch. The way they measure either day could have easily been more than an inch.
  15. If most falls at night they may actually get a semi accurate measurement at 7 am Tuesday morning in the Park. it would be nice for NYC to finally put this somewhat inaccurate, 1 inch snow drought off the table.
  16. Isn't that a bit of an exaggeration. NYC had 8.3 inches on Jan 29th 2022, and Islip had 25 inches form the same storm. 3 Years ago on Feb 1-2 NYC had 17.4 inches. I know it's been a bad stretch the last year and a half but people forget.
