If that happens (I’ll bet it doesn’t), it’ll be the 7th occurrence on record of 9+ consecutive days with lows of 70+, first time at Pittsburgh International, first time since 1918, and the first time in June. The last official 95F reading was on September 4, 2018, although I do seem to recall some discussion about whether the sensor wasn't running a little hot at the time. I'm a little skeptical that lows would stay above 70F that entire stretch, especially with showers and thunderstorms becoming increasingly likely. Too easy to drop into the low 70s with rain-cooled air in the evening. At that point, only a few more degrees of overnight cooling gets you into the upper 60s. Taking the NWS point-click values for PIT would yield a final monthly mean of 73.1F. That's 11th warmest in the "official" threaded record but would be the warmest ever at PIT and warmest in the threaded record since 1943. The cold start to the month prevents us from making a run any higher than that. Personally, I suspect that forecast is a little overdone with the increasing rain chances, but we'll see. Definitely going to feel like summertime either way. The warmest Junes at the current airport site are 1967 (73.0F), 1994 (72.9F), 2024 (72.8F) and 1991 (72.6F). Dew points seemed lower than forecast as well, if only by a little. Still very hot out there, but more Heat advisory than Extreme Heat warning. Interestingly, those June's lately have outperformed July and August with peak temperatures (last year all three hit 94, but still). June has generally outperformed August these last few years. The only other time we had 5 day streaks of 90 degree temps in 3 consecutive summer months (not necessarily the same summer) was July and August of 1887 and June of 1888. Oh, well, technically off, then. This stretch *matches* the longest since 2020. Honestly, I forgot about those. I thought the June heat wave was 4-day stretch and 5 out of 6 days, but it looks like that hot spell was technically an 89, followed by 2 90s, then another 89, and then 3 90s. And then I guess there were 5-day stretches in both July and August last year, which clearly didn't garner as much publicity as the June heat wave. Granted with the two 89s in the mix, there were likely parts of the area (downtown, some valley locations) that may have seen 7 days in a row but without an official reading. Although only at 9 in a row, I’m interested in seeing how many 80+ days we string together. Seemingly no end in sight, though. Strung together 37 in a row in 2020. Looks like it. Should finish around 73.1F, which would match 1925 for 11th hottest in the full threaded record and make it the hottest since 1943 in the threaded record.
