INITIAL STRONG COLD FRONT EXPECTED DURING THE DAY ON MONDAY.MODELS SOMEWHAT DIFFER ON TIMING OF COLD FRONT WITH GFS FASTER WITH ARRIVAL MONDAY AM WHILE NAM A BIT LATER ON MONDAY AFTERNOON. WILL

KIND OF PLAY IN BETWEEN ON TEMPERATURES FOR DAY TIME HIGHS.

INCREASING MOISTURE AND SHALLOW UPSLOPE DEVELOP MONDAY AFTERNOON

AND EVENING WITH MODEST QG UPWARD FORCING MONDAY EVENING. COULD BE

SOME LIGHT SNOW ACCUMULATIONS WITH THIS PATTERN OVER PLAINS AND

EAST SLOPES. MUCH COLDER ON TUESDAY WITH TEMPERATURES REMAINING

IN THE 20S AS 700MB TEMPS PLUMMET TO -9C. THERE WILL BE A BIT OF

A BREAK IN SNOWFALL ON TUESDAY BEFORE NEXT WAVE APPROACHES

NORTHERN COLORADO ON WEDNESDAY

I think we could see some snow on Monday afternoon or Monday night. Temperatures of  20-30 degrees will move into northeast plains of Colorado on Monday or Monday night, and there will be some lift at 500mb.

If the new Euro is correct, this could be a truly epic and perhaps record-breaking cold spell for this early in the season for the Mountain West/Plains. Already looking at several days with highs in the teens here in the Denver area, some snow likely with the Arctic passage tomorrow, and possibly a reinforcing shot and more chances of snow in the week ahead.

I think there will be a lot of things that will bear (not referring to a large hibernating mammal) watching. Along with the single digits to teens temperatures, check this GFS "clown plot" from yesterday. The GFS and ECWMF had snow for Wed-Thurs and next weekend too.

Snow and cold temperatures came in quickly here. We got a trace of snow. At 7:50AM it was 62 degrees. At 10:30AM it was 32 degrees with snow. That's a 30 degree drop in 2:40. Wind gusts maxed out at 45mph out of the northwest, at 9:30AM. Now, we have about 20mph wind gusts.

The graphs here show the frontal passage quite well:

http://foehn.colorado.edu/weather/paos1/

Down to 40 in Boulder with the temperature dropping rapidly. Just got below freezing up in Ned. Thinking about heading up the hill early today to work from home. We still haven't switched to our snow tires yet and I'm sure the canyon will get dicey quickly.

Dropped from 61 degrees at 8:45 am to 35 degrees at 10 am here. Now down to 22 with steady, light snow.

At a minimum, it's now a tie for 12th latest, assuming snow actually accumulates at DIA today.

How do they get .02 precip with temps in the teens and not get at least .1" accumulation? Maybe it was the wind.

Anyway, they've been getting steadier snow with light winds today, so I'm sure they'll make it official.

Tomorrow is going to set a lot of cold records in CO (not to mention across the country). Kind of ridiculous, actually.

DEN is predicted to have a high of 6 tomorrow. If that occurs, it will blow away the earliest a high that cold has been seen (12/5/72). The low is predicted to be -5, which while easily a record for the day, would fall short of the coldest temp this early in the season (11/8/50 with -8).

For Boulder, the high is predicted to be 7. This also would shatter the previous record cold max for this early (11/27/1919). The low is predicted to be -2, which would fall short of only 11/10/50 with -3.

We have a wind chill advisory for eastern Larimer County. I hardly have ever seen that advisory here since the winds go calm when it is so cold. Today, this area spent the entire day below 17.  Late December days average 42/17 at Fort Collins, so we were under the lowest average daily low.. Tomorrow should be colder. I have never experienced a high of 5 in November, here or in Ohio, or in Michigan.  On 11/30/2006 it was 27/-7 at Fort Collins Christman Field, which was the coldest low temperature that has been near my town in November.

Fort Collins' lowest maximum temperature on record for 11/12 was 8F on 11/12/1916. You have to go 38 years back to find a high temp <= 25 for 11/12.

This could realistically be the coldest November day on record for many stations when all is said and done...and it's the 12th.

It looks like the snow/low clouds will move out by late afternoon or early evening, and if skies clear tonight, we could see some unprecedented low temps for so early in the season.
