Gaithersburg Maryland VP2 backyard weather station report for Saturday, August 17, 2013

Saturday was kind of a slow transition day, with rain coming up from the south all day but still not reaching my station, though it is in the area now scattered about. We had another night overnight Friday in the 50s (last one in a while unfortunately) and another day with highs in the 70s with mostly sunny skies filtering through the slowly increasing and thickening high to middle cloud deck. Rain should be starting anytime now in the early morning hours of Sunday. Mostly morning rain action, but still an 80 POP for rain showers all day, with temps expected to reach no higher than the low 70s with the cloud cover contributing to that more than anything. This morning it is in the mid 60s and should slowly warm through the morning after sunrise. A 40 POP for showers Sunday night with lows in the 60s as we remain cloudy. Monday should still be cloudy, highs in the upper 70s (last day of that for a while) with a 30 POP for isolated showers/storms that continues into the evening, with lows in the 60s.  Tuesday we should clear out and heat up quickly into the upper 80s as a warm, humid flow starts strong that should dominate our weather pattern all week.  Wednesday through Friday looks more of the same, with party to mostly sunny, humid skies with highs in the upper 80s to around 90 and lows in the upper 60s to low 70s. There won't be much chance of a stray storm or shower around through Friday. Over the weekend at this time it looks like shower chances will increase, but remain warm and humid with highs well into the 80s and warm, muggy nights with lows around 70.

Gaithersburg Maryland VP2 backyard weather station report for Sunday, August 18, 2013

Sunday was not exactly what I had expected. It was cloudy and cool, but no measurable rain fell.  Just a few sprinkles or light drizzle fell out all day, despite the early morning radar view that seemed to show a lot more rain coming.  At least we did pull another day in the low 70s for max temps, and tonight temps are in the low 60s and seem destined to fall to around 60 by morning. Clouds will persist all night, keeping the temperature drop to a minimum for sure. Monday should be partly cloudy with high temps rising into the low 80s, with a 40 POP for showers/storms in the afternoon, dropping to a 30 POP for rain showers in the evening, with lows in the 60s. A few clouds in the early AM on Tuesday, then sunny skies, warming into the upper 80s. The rest of the work week should find high temps each day in the upper 80s to around 90, with lows in the upper 60s to low 70s.  There is some hope for a cold front and cooler temps next weekend, with a chance at showers on Saturday with the frontal passage. But we shall see how that develops as the week progresses.

Gaithersburg Maryland VP2 backyard weather station report for Monday, August 19, 2013

Monday was the transition day as we enter back into the hot and humid summer weather again most of this week. It was still another day with highs in the 70s, but the dew points crept well up into the 60s, and tonight the temps are holding in the mid 60s, and I suspect a low of around 65 is about as good as we can expect with some fog in low-lying areas. Tuesday through Thursday should be partly cloudy, very warm and humid with highs in the upper 80s to around 90 and lows in the upper 60s to around 70. Thursday might see some showers/storms (30 POP right now) leading into slightly cooler/drier air on Friday and over the weekend, with sunny skies and highs in the low-mid 80s and lows in the low-mid 60s.

Gaithersburg Maryland VP2 backyard weather station report for Tuesday, August 20, 2013

Tuesday started our mini warm and humid streak that hopefully will only last 3 days. It had been a week since I had a max temp of over 80° (82.6° on 8/13). And dew points rose into the upper 60s/low 70s. It was partly sunny, lots of cloud buildups at times during the day. One more relatively cool morning, tonight through the overnight so far it has remained above 70, I don't think we will drop any lower than the upper 60s. Wednesday should be partly cloudy, very warm and humid with highs in the upper 80s and lows around 70. There is an outside chance for a shower or stray thunderstorm.  Wednesday night should remain warm and muggy, with lows around 70 by Thursday morning. Thursday may reach 90, hopefully not as I have not hit 90 so far this August, and I would love it if I didn't have a 90 max all during August. Clouds may put a lid on the rising temps as a cold front approaches and a better chance for showers/storms on Thursday afternoon/evening (40 POP). Clearing should take over late Thursday evening, and yield a sunny, not as warm and not as humid Friday, with highs in the mid 80s and lows in the low-mid 60s. The weekend looks beautiful with sunny skies and lower dew points with highs in the low 80s and lows in the upper 50s to low 60s.

Gaithersburg Maryland VP2 backyard weather station report for Wednesday, August 21, 2013

Wednesday continued our mini warm and humid streak with my highest temperature reading of the month (so far). We might top it tomorrow, depending on how much cloudiness and showers there are.  High temps will once again be in the mid-upper 80s, with dew points around 70. Overnight tonight we probably will drop to around 70 by sunrise under mostly cloudy skies. There were showers/storms around the region, but somehow I missed all that action. On Thursday there is only a 30 POP for showers/storms in the afternoon, lowering to a 20 POP Thursday evening, then back up to a 30 POP Friday morning before the front passed through finally and we clear out nicely for the weekend. Highs on Saturday and Sunday will be in the low 80s with sunny skies and lower dew points. Lows Friday night will be in the upper 50s, Saturday night around 60. Early next week should continue with the sunny, dry weather, with highs in the low-mid 80s and lows in the low-mid 60s through Wednesday at least.

Gaithersburg Maryland VP2 backyard weather station report for Thursday, August 22, 2013

Thursday continued our mini warm and humid streak with another high temp in the mid 80s, but still staying away from that 90 mark. The sky was pretty clear most of the day,and we had blue sky too, without much serious cloudiness. It is a bit cloudy tonight, however, with temps still in the low 70s. There are showers to my NW, up around Hagerstown/Hancock MD that might give me some overnight action. We are getting a bit dry around here with all these near miss precipitation chances. Friday should be cloudy in the morning with a 50 POP for showers/storms,then clearing in the afternoon and evening as drier, cooler air finally should come through. Lows Friday night should drop into the upper 50s to around 60. Highs over the weekend under sunny skies should be in the low 80s, with lows in the low 60s. A gradual warmup during the early part of next week, with highs in the mid-upper 80s and lows in the mid-upper 60s with a 30 POP for showers/storms on Wednesday as the muggies make a short return visit.

Currently at 0248 EDT I have a temp of 70.6°(VP2), (70.7° RS), Cloudy, Winds Calm, Pressure at 29.96" and steady, humidity 86%, dew point of 66°.

Radar is showing a group of showers with possibly some embedded thundershowers in west central Maryland in the Hagerstown/Hancock area, heading this way. If they can get over a few more ranges without falling apart, we may get some overnight rain activity.

Had a neighborhood power failure for a good part of the evening that was not weather related - not sure what our local power company's problem was. It made for a less than productive evening, with activities not planned earlier.

Gaithersburg Maryland VP2 backyard weather station report for Saturday, August 24, 2013

Saturday was sunny, dry with plenty of blue skies and pleasant temps, maxing out around 80 with dew points mostly in the 50s to low 60s.  Pleasant overnight too, as we did reach the upper 50s, much like we are doing tonight during the Saturday overnight. Clear, with the barometric pressure reaching the highest readings of the month (so far) with temps right now in the upper 50s once again. Sunny on Sunday with highs in the low 80s. Lows on Sunday night under clear skies should be in the lower 60s. Highs on Monday should reach the mid 80s, with partly cloudy skies. Monday night should see an increase in clouds and moisture, with lows in the upper 60s. Tuesday should be partly cloudy with highs in the upper 80s and a 30 POP for showers/storms. Tuesday night should probably see an increase in precipitation activity, at a 40 POP, with lows in the upper 60s. Wednesday should clear out and be in the mid-upper 80s, lows in the upper 60s to around 70. Thursday may very well be the warmest day of the week, with highs in the upper 80s and lows around 70 under mostly sunny skies. Friday we should cool down slightly under mostly sunny skies, with highs in the mid 80s, lows in the mid 60s, with further cooling on Saturday with highs in the low 80s and lows in the low-mid 60s. I still haven't hit a 90 max this month so far, and it looks like I have a chance at keeping that record the rest of the month. I have done that once in my 35 period of record, back in 1982.  I would definitely like to do that again, especially if it doesn't lead to a heat wave in September!

Saturday's precipitation: 0

At midnight EDT obs the temp was 63.2° (VP2), Clear, Winds Calm, Pressure at 30.34" and steady, humidity 89%, dew pt of 60°.

Currently at 0513 EDT I have a temp of 59.4°(VP2), (59.5° RS), Clear, Winds Calm, Pressure at 30.36" and steady, humidity 94%, dew point of 58°.

Radar is showing a clear screen throughout the Eastern US north of Florida, save for a few scattered showers over the northern part of WI and the Upper peninsula of MI, along with far northern Minnesota and parts of western Ontario.

Had a few more power outages this evening. Very unnerving! Local power company working in our neighborhood, they probably will have to replace all of our 40 year old underground wiring in our community over the next few years. Oh Joy!

Gaithersburg Maryland VP2 backyard weather station report for Sunday, August 25, 2013

Gaithersburg Maryland VP2 backyard weather station report for Monday, August 26, 2013

Monday was sunny to partly cloudy at times with warmer temps into the mid 80s and dew points climbing a bit into the mid 60s. This evening clouds have increased and a front is pushing southward through Pennsylvania to our north with a 40 POP for scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms during the overnight. Temps are still in the low 70s and probably won't drop more that a few degrees into the upper 60s by morning. The rest of the week looks to have high temps close if not on the 90 mark, endangering my month-long streak of sub-90 max temp readings. Lows will mainly be in the upper 60s to low 70s. On Tuesday there is a 40 POP for showers/storms continuing into Tuesday evening, then a 50 POP for showers/storms on Wednesday and Wednesday evening. It should turn sunny and dry on Thursday and Friday and into the weekend with very slight chances for rain over the Labor Day weekend.

Gaithersburg Maryland VP2 backyard weather station report for Tuesday, August 27, 2013

Tuesday was partly cloudy with even warmer temps heading up towards the upper 80s with dew points climbing into the 70s. A generally most uncomfortable day. Most of the major area airports hit over 90, I am in a relatively cool spot where I live. Sure looked threatening at times, and there was some action on radar during the day but it seemed to dry up as it approached Montgomery County. Tonight it is cloudy and muggy, but all the local rain action has faded in the more stable overnight hours.  However, there is a large mass of rain showers and storms in western PA, OH and nearby states headed SE towards our area, which should give us action later this morning. Temps won't get below 70 by sunrise, and will rise back up into the mid 80s on Wednesday with a 50 POP for showers/ storms during the day.  We should dry out in the evening, and have just another muggy evening, with lows around 70.  Thursday should be sunny and relatively nice, with highs in the low 80s and lows in the mid 60s. Starting Friday and running through the Labor Day weekend, we should have high temps mostly in the mid 80s and lows in the mid-upper 60s. Sunny on Friday, partly cloudy over the weekend with a 30 POP for showers/storms on Saturday and Sunday and a 40 POP on Labor Day Monday. Sunny and seasonable weather with highs in the low 80s and lows in the mid 60s should start our new work week and new month off nicely.

At midnight EDT obs the temp was 75.1° (VP2), Cloudy, Winds Calm, Pressure at 29.92" and falling, humidity 88%, dew pt of 71°.

Currently at 0243 EDT I have a temp of 73.2°(VP2), (73.2° RS), Cloudy, Winds Calm, Pressure at 29.89" and falling, humidity 89%, dew point of 70°.

Radar is showing a large area of showers and storms moving SE out of western Pennsylvania and surrounding states into Maryland, which is a lot further west and much more substantial than the shower activity that we were having this time last night.  I suspect that by sunrise we should be getting some rain showers out of this activity.

Gaithersburg Maryland VP2 backyard weather station report for Wednesday, August 28, 2013

Wednesday was mostly cloudy, cooler, damp with occasional light mostly morning showers but I did run into brief sprinkles to very brief downpours on my ride home- but didn't fall heavy at all here at my station. The clouds hung around all day and totally blew the forecasted high temps for the day, staying in the 70s all day and not making it to the forecasted highs well up in the 80s. Dew pts still stayed mostly in the low 70s.  Still  cloudy now and should stay so overnight with lows maybe reaching the upper 60s, no lower. High temps over the next few days and through the Labor Day weekend should be in the low-mid 80s, with lows in the mid-upper 60s. Isolated showers possible overnight and tomorrow (20 POP), but mostly sunny both on Thursday and Friday. Partly to mostly cloudy with a 40 POP for showers/storms over the weekend, temps remaining in the low-mid 80s and lows in the mid-upper 60s. Next week looks to be cooling off, with highs on Wednesday dropping into the upper 70s. Hopefully fall weather is on the way! We start September on Sunday, and it couldn't come any faster!

Thursday warmed up under considerably more sun than yesterday, complete with the usual high dew points (mostly above 70 but thankfully not too much above). On Sunday and Monday partly to mostly cloudy skies with a 40 POP for showers/storms, highs in the mid 80s, lows around 70. Next week looks to cool off a bit and dry out, with highs around 80 on Tuesday and upper 70s the rest of the week, with lows in the upper 50s to low 60s, as we transition into the new month of September.

Gaithersburg Maryland VP2 backyard weather station report for Friday, August 30, 2013

Friday was a mostly sunny day, humid, but pretty clear and warm, with high temps once again in the mid 80s. Tonight the temps have dropped into the low 70s and should wind up in the upper 60s by sunrise.  I had some problems with my VP2 this evening, and lost about 3 hours worth of data on the internet and in my data logger, though a backup VP2 was able to help me out with my daily climate statistics for Friday. Right after midnight my original VP2 started to work again, and so far has maintained operational status up to this point. Saturday should be similar to Friday with sun, dew points in the 70s and high temps in the upper 80s. Clouds should be on the increase by evening as a strong cold front approaches our area from the Midwest.  It will be a slow progression as both Sunday and Monday right now look to have more clouds than sun, highs still well up in the 80s and humid, with a 50 POP for showers/storms occurring occasionally during the period.  Next week looks great, with sun, lower dew points, and highs in the upper 70s to around 80 and lows in the upper 50s to around 60 as we ease into the new month of September.

Gaithersburg Maryland VP2 backyard weather station report for Saturday, August 31, 2013

Saturday was a humid, partly cloudy, very warm day but with little chance at any rain to wind up the drier and probably cooler than normal August. I did wind up with no 90 max temp days, an occurrence that has only happened one other time going back to 1979 (1982) when I moved in to my house and set up my station.  The 87.0 high today tied August 27 for my warmest temp of August 2013, but technically Aug 27 was warmer with a 87.3 reading but officially I round my max and min temps to the nearest whole degree, since most of my 35 year record was recorded with nearest whole degree values. Tonight it is partly cloudy and humid, with temps just falling below 70 a few minutes ago,and should be in the upper 60s by sunrise. Sunday only has an isolated chance (20 POP) under partly cloudy, humid skies, with highs in the upper 80s. Only a slight increase in shower chances on Sunday evening (30 POP) with lows in the upper 60s. Monday looks to be mostly cloudy but somehow the max temps are supposed to be near 90, with a 50 POP for showers/storms, particularly towards evening. A 60 POP for rain activity on Monday evening, lows in the 60s. From Tuesday through the rest of the week we should have sunny to partly cloudy skies, lower dew points and temps in the upper 70s-lower 80s by day and upper 50s to lower 60s overnight with no chance of rain as we start out the new month of September on a tranquil note.

Gaithersburg Maryland VP2 backyard weather station report for Sunday, September 1, 2013

Sunday started out September on a very warm note- after going all of August without hitting 90, I almost did it on Sunday - the 89.1 high temp was my hottest reading since July 20 when I hit 91.1 . It seemed inevitable that I would hit 90 today as I was 89.1 just a bit after 4 PM, and I usually hit my high for the day around 6 PM, but enough of a cloud deck came in to put a lid on the rising temps and reversed the upwards trend the rest of the afternoon and into the evening. Now, early Monday morning, the temps are in the low 70s and headed down to the upper 60s by sunrise. On Labor Day Monday the threat to hit 90 is here once again under partly cloudy, humid skies with a 50 POP for showers/storms in the afternoon and evening. Might have another cloud cover save like Sunday to keep from hitting 90 for a daily high temperature - the evening should indeed be mostly cloudy with lows by morning once again into the upper 60s. Tuesday and the return to work should see sunny skies and a slow cooling trend started with highs in the mid 80s. Wednesday and Thursday night should find low temps overnight into the upper 50s, with high temps getting a bit cooler each day, finally reaching highs in the upper 70s by Friday. Continued sunny skies into the weekend, with highs in the low 80s, lows in the low 60s.

Gaithersburg Maryland VP2 backyard weather station report for Labor Day Monday, September 2, 2013

Monday was a warm, humid, mostly sunny Labor Day with clouds at times, esp. in the evening when the cold front was just about here. Temps reached well up into the 80s, dew points into the 70s for hopefully the last day in a while. Tonight there are a few widely scattered showers around the region, but not here, and they are lessening in intensity as they move east. We should start cooling off by morning, into the 60s. Highs on Tuesday should be in the low 80s, then mid 50s overnight into Wednesday. From Thursday through the weekend, the high temps should be in the upper 70s to lower 80s, with lows in the mid-upper 50s to around 60.Sunny skies and lower dew points into the 40s and 50s should be the outstanding feature for the entire period.

Tuesday started cooling off and the gradual lowering of the dew point into the 50s. So the air was fresh and clear, as we still headed up into the low 80s.      Gaithersburg Maryland VP2 backyard weather station report for Wednesday, September 4, 2013

Wednesday was a bit cooler and drier than Tuesday.  A series of frontal boundaries will be passing through this week, and gradually cool us off the rest of the week into the weekend, with highs mostly in the 75-80 range by day and mostly 50s by night with possibly upper 40s on Thursday or Friday night. No real rain chances in sight, we are getting quite dry lately. We have a bit of a warmup in the offing next week, with highs getting up into the 80s and lows in the low-mid 60s. There is a bit of a chance at showers/storms on Tuesday (30 POP) but I would not hold my breath. Was indeed off work again today, and the jury is out for tomorrow, as the chills have come back at times.

Gaithersburg Maryland VP2 backyard weather station report for Thursday, September 5, 2013

Thursday sunny with similar temps and other conditions as I had on Wednesday. Tonight the dew point has dropped to around 50, which should allow us to drop to the low-mid 50s by sunrise under clear, calm conditions. Friday should be sunny and pleasant, with high temps in the mid 70s. Friday night we should drop into the upper 40s, coolest night of the season so far. Saturday should warm back up into the low 80s under more sun, then some clouds overnight Saturday should keep our temps in the upper 50s. Sunday should clear off and feature temps in the low 80s. Lows should drop into the low-mid 50s. Monday should be sunny with high temps in the mid 70s. Thereafter a bit of a warmup the rest of the week, with highs in the low-mid 80s and lows in the low 60s through at least Wednesday.  Still no sign of any rain. Went to the Doctor's on Thursday afternoon - I have cellulitis, a leg infection (left leg) that I am taking a strong antibiotic to fight the infection (generic for levaquin). I have had this a number of times over the past 20 years, so I knew the symptoms, and knew the type of drug needed to fight it. Had a number of blood tests done also.

Gaithersburg Maryland VP2 backyard weather station report for Friday, September 5, 2013

Friday was sunny and cooler, and with dew point temps in the mid-40s to low 50s, was the best day yet for the month of September as we barely reached the mid 70s for high temps. Tonight it has remained clear and calm for the most part, with temps falling into the low 50s now with an outside shot at hitting into the upper 40s by sunrise Saturday. Saturday should be another sunny day, warmer, with highs into the low 80s but still comfortable dew points no higher than the low-mid 50s.  Clouds on the increase Saturday night with warmer mins, in the mid-upper 50s to around 60.  Sunday should be sunny and once again up in the low-mid 80s. A bit cooler Saturday with the clear skies, lows back in the 50s, then Sunny on Monday with highs in the upper 70s. Thereafter we should have a bit of a warming trend, with highs on Tuesday and Wednesday into the mid 80s, with slightly increasing chances of showers/storms (30 POP). By Friday we should clear that out and cool off, back into the upper 70s.  Certainly no major washout, and with just a 30 POP the chances are good that we won't get any real rain action throughout the region, only scattered activity. We need the rain, we have only had 0.30" of rain since August 13, almost a month now, and nothing at all in September so far. My cellulitis, a leg infection (left leg) I reported on yesterday, continues, and has not responded to the antibiotics as yet that I can significantly notice.

Gaithersburg Maryland VP2 backyard weather station report for Saturday, September 7, 2013

Saturday had a nice, cool start with our coolest reading so far this season, but warmed up under partly sunny skies up to around 80 but still dry.  Tonight it is milder by about 10-15° at the same corresponding time than last night, along with clouds and a few light showers in the region according to what I am currently seeing on radar.  Sunday should see partly cloudy skies with highs in the mid 80s. A brief cooldown Sunday night and Monday, with clear/sunny skies and lows in the mid 50s and highs in the mid-upper 70s.  Tuesday should warm up back into the mid 80s again under sunny skies, with lows in the 60s. On Wednesday and Thursday we will some clouds around and a 30 POP for showers/storms, getting up to near 90 on Wednesday then mid 80s on Thursday, with lows in the upper 60s. Friday we should cool off into the 70s for highs and  50s for lows under sunny skies that should continue on into the weekend. No real good rain chances in the foreseeable future, unfortunately. Leg appears to be improving slightly today in response to the antibiotic and rest.

Gaithersburg Maryland VP2 backyard weather station report for Sunday, September 8, 2013

Sunday was warmer and a bit more humid, with AM clouds and showers in the area but nothing measurable at my location. Then partly cloudy in the afternoon, with temps rising into the 80s and dew points back into the 60s. Tonight clear skies and a dry front has not dropped the temp that much yet (in the mid 60s currently) but has dropped the dew points down in the 50s. So we should drop overnight into the mid-upper 50s under clear skies. Monday should be the nicest day of the week till the end of the week, with sunny skies and high temps in the 70s and dew points in the 50s.  Monday night should see some increase in clouds and as the yo-yo patterns work their magic once again and a warm front brings our temps back up into the 60s overnight, and into the upper 80s on Tuesday under sunny skies. Wednesday and Thursday may hit or top the 90 mark with lows in the upper  60s to lower 70s, and a 30 POP for showers/storms at times with the rising moisture levels ahead of yet another cold frontal passage sometime late Thursday. Friday should be clear and return down into the 70s for highs and lower 60s for lows. These conditions should continue through the weekend with highs in the mid 70s on Saturday and low 70s on Sunday, somewhere in the 50s for lows. Once again I don't see a big rainmaker in our area for the foreseeable future. Antibiotic seems to be working, going to work on Monday.

Gaithersburg Maryland VP2 Backyard weather station report for Monday, September 9, 2013

Monday was a one day temporary cool-off that did not foreshadow what will be in store for our area the next three days. We reached the upper 70s after an early morning in the upper 50s, sunny, drier in the AM, gradually more humid in the pm, particularly evening, along with increasing clouds as a warm front prepares to pass through our area overnight. We are holding early Tuesday morning in the low 70s with dew points approaching 70. Will make for quite a launching pad for the temperatures to rise to around 90 on Tuesday afternoon under sunny skies. Lows Tuesday night in the upper 60s to lower 70s. Wednesday we should reach into the low 90s for the hottest readings since late July, under more sunny, humid skies.  Wednesday night should be a muggy one, with lows around 70 and dew points about the same. On Thursday highs in the upper 80s under partly cloudy skies, with a 50 POP for showers/storms as a strong cold front approaches from the west. Showers/storms continuing on Thursday night with gradually cooling temps as we head into Friday. Friday through the weekend should be beautiful, sunny, dry with high temps in the low-mid 70s and lows in the low-mid 50s. Back to work on Monday, lots to catch up on , and continued improvement on my leg infection as the antibiotic continues to do its thing.

Gaithersburg Maryland VP2 backyard weather station report for Tuesday, September 10, 2013

Tuesday got us back in the heat and humidity big-time. My 90 max was my first one of those since July 20 when I had a 91.1 high temp. Dew points are now in the 70s and I think I am headed for about a 73 min by sunrise tomorrow.  We are quite dry, with no measurable rain here so far this month. Clear overnight then sunny, hot and humid on Wednesday with highs up in the mid 90s. Partly cloudy Wednesday evening, continued muggy in the evening with temps dropping slowly through the 80s. I will be at the outdoor venue at Wolf Trap Farm Park in suburban VA, enjoying a ZZ Top concert there.  Hopefully I won't melt. We have reserved seats under cover, but no rain expected. Overnight temps will hold in the 70s. Thursday partly to mostly cloudy skies, highs up around 90 with a 50 POP for showers/ storms in the afternoon and evening. Eventually overnight Thursday we should clear out and start cooling down. Friday should be beautiful with highs in the 70s and lows dropping down into the upper 40s. Saturday even cooler, with highs in the upper 60s under sunny skies, and then dropping into the mid 40s Saturday overnight. 70s for highs and 50s for lows should dominate from Sunday into the early part of next week.

Gaithersburg Maryland VP2 backyard weather station report for Wednesday, September 11, 2013

Wednesday gave us some Texas type heat, brought in by ZZ Top at the evening concert I enjoyed immensely (despite the heat). Humid too! One more hot one to get through tomorrow, with hopefully some rain showers/storms, which we desperately need. Should stay in the muggy 70s overnight, and hit about 90 tomorrow, with a 50 POP for showers/storms. Gaithersburg Maryland VP2 backyard weather station report for Thursday, September 12, 2013

Friday started to heat up again, but was cut off by thickening clouds and thunderstorms that broke out

mid-afternoon (one period between 1515-1535 and the other between 1620-1700 with roughly the same 1/2 inch

amount out of each period). My dog Flash was definitely not happy over the booming sounds of the storms. We

didn't get his thundershirt on him in time, and he was in temporarydistress. But he was OK by the time I got

home. The rain was my first measurable amount for the month of September. Slow clearing out, still pretty damp

out there, esp. now that we have some moisture on the ground, which is forming light fog out there at the

present time. Temps should lower to the low 60s by morning under partly cloudy skies. Friday should start drying

out, highs in the upper 70s, under continued partly cloudy skies. Further clearing out and drying out on Friday

nightshould help drop the temps to possibly the lowest readings of the season, in the upper 40s. Saturday should

feature our coolest daytime temps of the season so far, with highs in the mid-upper 60s. Then Saturday night we

should bottom out in the mid-40s a bit cooler than Friday night.  Sunday should warm up a bit into the 70s for

highs, then 50s for lows overnight Sunday. The new week should feature some fine weather with high temps in

the 70s and lows in the 50s. Within those temp ranges, it should be slightly cooler each day through Wednesday

under continued sunny skies.

Gaithersburg Maryland VP2 backyard weather station report for Friday, September 13, 2013

Friday started out cloudy and damp, with a few sprinkles on my way to the office. Cleared up in the PM, gradually dried out and got cooler, particularly this evening as we keep heading down through the 50s. With the dew point in the mid 40s we probably will bottom out in the upper 40s by sunrise or shortly thereafter. Sunny and nice on Saturday, highs around 70, lows Saturday night into the upper 40s. Warming up a bit with sun on Sunday with highs in the upper 70s. Lows at night somewhere in the 50s through Wednesday, highs somewhere in the 70s under partly to mostly sunny skies and continued relatively low dew point temps in the 40s and 50s.  Later in the new week, Thursday and Friday we should warm up a bit into the low 80s with lows around 60. Still no sign of any more rain - Thursday's rain was decent (upwards to 3 inches of rain reported by several observers I know just to my south in Potomac and West Rockville) but we need more- the rain fell so hard that most of it wound up in our storm drains and did not soak in all that much.
