This is got to be the most boring tranquil weather I have ever seen. This past winter or year without one is definitely one for the books. I never seen anything quite like it. Water temps in bay was 60 degrees last month which is warmest by far that I have ever seen for so early in the year. This summer scares me to death working outside like I do because the extremely high humidity from the above normal water temps are going to add to the misery. I know that in 1983, (the hottest summer I remember here in Norfolk Va.) the water in the bay was 87 at one time. Even though the summer of 2010 was hottest summer here it was a dry one. That monster of 1983 was a beast in terms of oppressiveness. I remember a stretch of days about 3 weeks in length that topped 98 degrees or more in a row with high humidity. This is what I am looking at perhaps this summer. YOU NEVER KNOW FOR SURE WHAT THE PATTERN WILL SHAKE OUT THIS SUMMER BUT IT WILL MORE THEN LIKELY BE MORE INTERESTING THAN THIS PAST BORING WINTER. " When you get weather that you ain't seen before, means you gonna get MORE weather you ain't seen before." Stay tuned !!!

This time last year... 12 tornadoes blowing through the area, all avoiding the metro area.

Map says 11, but a 12th was added just south of Wakefield I believe.

The Surry Nuclear Power Station Got hit with one of those tornadoes. It did a lot more damage than what was first reported. They were offline for a little while.

Rather late but wanted to archive it here for the future. My friend and I were smack dab in the middle of the Hampton tornado. We watched it form over the James River then come ashore and were right near the damage areas asking if everything was ok after it hit. Ironically after looking at radar data and the track it took when it was all said and done, it was heading straight towards my house before it lifted...

That being said, we had some of the most intense lightning tonight in the Hampton area after sunset. Literally shook me in my chair. Looking at the soundings it seems like there was a small temperature inversion near the surface that could have been the cause.

It looks like one of those cases where they took the models for what they spit out. You can't expect a lot of rain and thunderstorms with no low pressure system in place. A weak cool front boundary isn't much to go on.

Hopefully tomorrow coach. Hopefully tomorrow. I hate these boring summer months. Its like Counting Crows kick ass album a few years back. AUGUST AND EVERYTHING AFTER. We can only hope. After last years mildest (SUCKEST) winter ever , We are jonesing for a ("something interesting please weather, Happen !") to happen.
