Ridiculously heavy rain up here yesterday from 4pm until way after 10pm. I wouldn’t call it isolated as many counties were affected, it just wasn’t down in the city. Raining up here this morning as well.

    .

Yes it worked out for some but it was not a widespread event. I just think it's confusing to most people as many thought the last few days would be washouts.

Uptons forecasts have been so bad I’m hesitant to cancel. What do models show for the island today?

It feels like they've had "heavy rain" as the "headline" for each of the past several days. It's confusing since its been so isolated.

There is something  traumatizing  to me about losing sunshine and warmth on the week of the longest days of the year. Sure i can handle a couple of days but now likely 10 straight days of clouds with showers probably in half of them. Screams summertime  eh?

When you lost June like we have it puts alot of pressure on July to deliver. Haven't  had one legit beech weekend and now this is 5th weekend of summer season now 33% over

I would also hate 60s for  Christmas

Completely agree. I get the need for rain but this persistent cloud cover in June is terrible. These stuck patterns are becoming more frequent in recent years.

  4. Just nasty outside, went to pick up a sandwich and it looked and smelled considerably worse than yesterday and likely to get even worse. Busted out my good old KN95, didnt think they would come in handy this quickly!

Nice fresh air here. Glad we here.

Jealous. It was sort of an "interesting" experience last night here in NYC due to the rarity but it actually sucks. Smells awful and not pleasant breathing it all in. Looking forward to when this clears up later in the week!

Montreal mid 90s, Nova Scotia 90s, LI beaches at 70

Yea one of those "over the top" scenarios we've been seeing a lot of over the past several years. Montreal has been warmer since this past weekend.

From a hydrologic standpoint there hasn't been an official basin wide drought in the Delaware River Basin region since 2002. A drought emergency was issued for lower basin in late Sept 2010 however less than a week later the area received 4-8" of rain & that emergency was subsequently lifted the following month.

In the twenty years prior to the 2001-2002 drought the Delaware River Basin Commission issued drought warnings / emergencies on 6 occasions. Actual droughts were common during the 80's, 90's & the early 2000's until the fall 2002 El Nino when the faucet opened up. Any dry periods since then have been short lived.

Locally 4.09" for the 3 day event & 6.39" for the month of April.

Thanks for this! I've felt like there have been a bit too many posts about how dry it is and drought like conditions (before this weekend) and how badly we've needed the rain. To me, any dry spells we've had in the past 10+ years have been fairly short lived with reservoir levels never really falling too drastically. I remember much drier conditions in the 80s and 90s.

More clouds sticking around today that previously expected.  On way into a cloudy/wet and overall cooler than normal next 2 weeks.  Should include many rain chances and some soakers. this weekend into Mon for some real heavy rains.  Should see a moderation out of the trough and cut off low upper air pattern towards the middle of the second week of next month near May 11.

Such a garbage pattern setting up (likely wont see the sun again until Monday afternoon!) - but they do tend to happen around this time of year so can't say its too surprising.

The Bronx can get pretty crowded to travel through but even the Bronx north of the cross Bronx usually isn’t as congested as Queens. I find Westchester has way less traffic than Nassau.

True but on average the congestion in the Bronx is better. Also depends if you are heading up from the west side of Manhattan as you only then need to clear Riverdale which often is less congested than the rest of the Bronx.

Yeah the person who designed the highways here just didn't want people to travel a lot between Manhattan and Long Island.

There are plenty of highways on LI, espec in western sections. I think part of the problem is the high population density in Nassau and that to get in and out of LI you HAVE to go thru an even denser Queens. For Westchester, once you are out of Manhattan the density falls off dramatically which, combined with numerous highway/parkway options makes it a quicker ride.

well that's interesting, I feel like you're getting more optimistic too, but I'd still be very hesitant making a higher than 4" forecast for the city and coast, you know the climo here and the type of antecedent airmass we have.

I think up to 4" is a good call for the city at the moment but if the 12z runs hold then it may be time to up them.

Right. That was my hunch, seems a bit miserable and eager to spread it.

Snowman is knowledgeable (more than most including myself) but almost always harps on the least snowy solution. It's served him well in this garbage of a winter but I recall several instances over the years where he was proven wrong.

This is a rare case where NYC can do better than SNE if the storm takes the right track...it would be fitting in this winter to see something odd like that happen

Yea it's rare but it can happen. I'll never forget that Feb '10 storm (I think?) where NYC was being dumped on and Boston was raining in the 50s. That track was so insane that the rain/snow line was north/south oriented so even places north but just east of NYC saw mixing or even rain (I was living in Armonk which is northeast of NYC and I remember that for a time it was mixing while NYC was snowing).
