  1. So I've really enjoyed this cooler weather for the last week or so. I was so inspired I decided to put down some grass seed in a small area. I seeded it last Saturday, July 31st. Fuzz started coming up Wednesday night, now I have to keep it cool until this next warm spell passes. I might use some bamboo and frost blanket to give it some shade, going for the Bohemian look. It's the round spot in this pic, we call it the on deck circle. There was a large tree there that we had taken down last year cuz it was dying. Note the 2 foot tall tulip poplar in the foreground that I dug out of the woods the other day. Going for fast growers, the one farther back is a Dawn Redwood that we planted 4 years ago, it was 4.5 ft. tall then.
  2. There were a few with Irene(?) in 2011, I remember at 1 am with the weather channel on and we kept getting the alerts for small tornadoes. But outside of tropical systems (where they're usually small tornadoes anyway) I don't recall a day like that. That was really exceptional I believe.
  3. How are you holding up this weekend with the absence of high heat?
  4. I'll go with the obvious answer - a hurricane, followed by 3 feet of snow on Christmas eve.
  5. Nice - tornado chasing in Northeast Philly probably wasn't on your list! Glad your Grandmother and Mom are okay.
  6. Yes indeed, got a light shower here for about 20 minutes, right after we finished mowing the back, and while cutting up part of a tree (from the storm before Elsa). Now it's just cloudy and quite humid. Radar looking kind of unexciting for now.
  7. Picked up 0.15" of rain from the showers that moved through earlier.
  8. Good for them, as long as it's not too interesting. High and dry here, looking forward to some lower dewpoints tomorrow, maybe we'll be able to cool off in the shade.
  9. Yeah, I've checked on that because we've been seeing lightning to the south since it got dark. Looks like a centipede working it's way to South Jersey.
  10. Nah, the thumb disappeared, so a no go for now.
  11. If the thumb on that hand stays up we might get something here. Feels like a long shot, but I hear an occasional rumble of thunder anyway.
  12. Maybe I need to get out more, but am I supposed to know who that is?
  13. Definitely felt like September outside today. Inspiring for doing outside stuff!
  14. Had a warned cell here too, got like 2 hailstones, but plenty of wind and about a quarter inch of rain. Tree across the street lost a couple of large branches, some small stuff here, but not too bad overall. Looking forward to the nice cool-off! Funny, my phone changed hailstones to gallstones.
  15. Okay, so I just heard a couple here, so they're filling in I guess, lol. Nice.
  16. The setting sun is a big orange ball, due to the smoke no doubt. Pretty cool looking.
  17. Looking forward to it, for a couple of days at least. This week overall is much better than last week dewpoint wise.
  18. Those lazy hazy crazy days of summer. 87F here currently, DP a reasonable 71.
  19. I did a little research, they seem to be native to the US east coast and se Canada. Couldn't find anything about a big migration or population explosion or anything like that, so for now it's a mystery.
  20. I only started hearing them around here about 5 or 6 years ago. Don't know much about their migration habits, maybe I'll look it up!
  21. I always thought of them as an August critter, maybe showing up the last week of July? Beautiful day outside!!!
  22. Got 0.62" last evening from what I'll call the main event, didn't really get any measurable earlier, a few drops here and there. Much more pleasant today, thank you! Currently 75F, dp 67.
