  1. Found this guy earlier walking up the hill out near the street, moving away from the creek. Maybe he saw the mesoscale discussion. We put him in the back yard and pointed him back towards the creek. He's a snapper, pretty small.
  2. HRRR for the win if it happens. It's fading/gone on most other models. Kind of rooting for it, otherwise it'll be pretty much a snoozefest here it would seem, as Henri waves as he passes by NJ.
  3. There's also a possibility of a PRE (Predecessor Rain Event) which could give us a dump of rain before it gets to our latitude.
  4. Yes it has, at least down this way. Not worried about it now, July was wet enough, and one or two heavy storms could get us back close to normal. In the meantime maybe we'll have some lower humidity in a week or so, although today wasn't too bad, partly due to the breeze.
  5. Picked up another 0.24" here yesterday/last night, bringing the monthly total to 0.96". Racking up the rainfall here, a quarter inch at a time! Nice breeze this morning!
  6. I'm south of there, and so far it's been a pretty cool light show, with some huge ctc lightning, for the last hour plus. It's all scraping by just to the NW of here, hoping we can catch the tail end of it.
  7. Thanks! It must have, we got about 5 minutes of rain and a couple very distant rumbles of thunder.
  8. Looks like we're about to get a few minutes of rain here. Made it to 88 here today, hasn't been too bad outside for the last hour or two due to the breeze.
  9. Wound up with 0.21" of rain from the afternoon showers, not much but enough to knock the dust down. Total for August to date here is 0.72", we shall see if we do any catching up as the week goes on. A year ago we had over 12" here the 1st week of August, so we're balancing out a bit. Currently 78F, dp 75.
  10. Agreed. Plus here the rainfall total so far for August is 0.53". Be nice to catch up a bit. If we got RedSky one of these for his hammock, maybe he'd enjoy it too!
  11. Yeah, I hear you on all counts, and good luck! I've been a fan of KBG, and still am, but it can be high maintenance. I'm looking at some of the newer TTTF cultivars, which are supposed to have some rhizomatous (sp?) qualities, for a mix.
  12. I seeded a small area where we had a tree taken down last year, about the size of an on deck circle. We had seeded it last fall but it came in weak so it didn't survive the summer very well. I hit it with the dethatcher, raked it up, even added a little loose dirt. This was Saturday, July 31st, figured I'd take advantage of the cool week that was coming up. It came up great, and since its in an area that gets full sun, I even made a shade sail for it out of bamboo and a tarp, to help it survive the heat this past week. It got to about 3/4" tall, then was attacked by some grass eating fungus on Tuesday night. Now there's about 20% of it left, it looks good, except for the large dirt area surrounding it. Oh well, lol. At least it's semi prepped for the next shot, maybe this week. I've found it hard to get grass to grow when temps are 90 and above. I mean it will come up, but survival is another story, at least where full sun is involved.
  13. Yeah we're seeing some of that there heat lightning here as well, but you can still see the stars, for now. Wouldn't mind if that line or the one behind it gave us some rain at least. Got a total of 0.26" the last 2 nights. Not complaining, it cooled things off nicely 2 nights in a row, but we could handle a little more.
  14. Under a severe tstorm warning here, so far starting out like last night, with some pretty gusty winds for the last 10 minutes, and a couple rumbles of thunder. A bit cooler which is very welcome. Just heard an ice cream truck too, lol.
  15. Move it inside, the dewpoint is too high for a cookout, lol.
  16. Getting some action here, pretty windy for the last 10 minutes or so, heavy rain moving in, and just had a lightning bolt about 1/4 mile to the west. Much cooler, refreshing!
  17. 0.32" here this month so far. Glad we have a well!
  18. Lol, and we'll tell them they don't need to bring anything!
  19. My wife had a funny/wild experience before the shower, she was standing on a bench snipping spent flowers off a butterfly bush, and felt something on her shin. She looked down and it was a cicada killer crawling up her leg with a locust. She jumped down and walked briskly away, and the bee was following her for a bit (with the locust) before it gave up. Scary for her but pretty funny too. Like the bee was trying to get on her good side by offering her a locust, lol.
  20. Yep, that's what happened. Did get a shower for a few minutes, about 0.05" of rain, with some thunder in the distance. Had a nice view of a cell building up to the north of here also.
  21. Made me look - there's one about 5 miles south of here, bubbling northward, maybe.
