The zone from downtown southward has sort of gotten screwed so far, relatively speaking. I'm at 16.5"
Wait until Detroit cutter season
Then we’ll see how the QC/northern IL folks feel

We’re turning to snow downtown. If you round up to a generous 0.5” of snow before the changeover, we’re probably at an “impressive” 12” of snow or so for the season.

Snowpack definitely took a beating but the parks are still covered. Whatever is left will crust over quickly as temps drop over next couple days.

Nam was definitely way too cold like several people noted. I'm shocked though given the precedent arctic air mass and snow pack. Goes to show you aggressive WAA can overcome a lot. Already at or slightly above freezing here
It repeatedly initialized several degrees too cold

Hoping the Friday night clipper trends wetter. We have the Friday/Saturday rule in effect for the forum, has done well past couple storms

NAM still looks a few degrees too cold

NAM about 3 degrees too cold here

And so attention turns to the clipper train that looks to start late week and continue for some time. Any chance we get some overperformers?

Hoping this mesolow advertises by the HRRR can make it onshore later tonight. Would mean the difference between a DAB and 2-3”
-
Might get a quick inch or two later once the band moves back west. The HRRR is pretty aggressive on that front actually

Trends are looking a little iffy for Lake county Illinois. Might end up getting screwed there. We'll see. I could be wrong and there could be another crack at it tomorrow when it comes west.
I’d say they did well enough with the synoptic stuff...they can take back seat on this one

Roads are getting covered downtown, and this is just bonus before the big show
-
Also just throwing out there, thank you to all the National Weather Service employees who are working without pay during this unnecessary shutdown

Lake effect snow showers starting over Chicago. Latest HRRR parks the main band over us around 2-3am for a few hours. I anticipate snowfall rates 1+” hr...may need to set the alarm! My call is for 2.5” additional overnight with maybe an inch possible Sunday night once the band rotated back
