I was visiting some of the woods I tap in the spring and drove by Bigelow Hollow - I saw several people ice fishing out there and that's just south of you.
As a kid my dad would take us out as long as it was over 3" of black ice. We would also cut test holes every 50' or so.

How thick do you think the ice is? The smaller ponds around here look solid, I see some open water on some of the larger deep lakes in the area.
Upper 30's today, not much melting, just a little softening of the ice pack, tomorrow should do a number on the pack.
A friend of mine fished Cranberry Pond in Sunderland/Leverett and told me 4" of black ice. That's pretty solid. It's also been real cold here this week, today was first day above freezing and it's already back down in the mid-20's.

Ice fishermen were out on Barton Cove on the CT River this morning!

Damn, mid 40s here
In Chelmsford visiting family and it’s 42F. It was only 26F when we left Greenfield at 11 AM.

Hopefully we get something wintery to pop next week but pattern looks to have December whimper out and January limp in.

They have internet. Just crappy slow stuff.
The state doesn’t install stuff but they can create grants. That’s how Princeton got it after decades. That town is pretty $$$ compared to mine but we have had broadband since we moved here in 1998 (I think).
My wife’s school does really well despite having Commodore 64 level internet. LolWestern MA has huge high speed internet gaps in the rural towns.

They all loved snow. Never saw it in Europe
Wut?

I think interior SNE/CNE interior has a shot at some wintery precipitation next week.

I went out to North Adams for work today and I must say it is a special December when Greenfield has more snow otg than Florida Pass in Savoy.

Updated totals to include the .5" Tuesdasy night and the .25" from the squalls yesterday. Total 25.75" for the season.
-
I haven’t looked back to 2008 and 2009 but this might be best December in Greenfield since we moved here in 2007.

At this point my totals are under by .75” but I’ve been to lazy to change on the table. 25.75”

Flash freeze here from squall melting on roads.
Doesn’t take much and there are a lot of idiots with drivers licenses.

About .25” from that squall that ripped through around 6:30. Roads are a black ice disaster.

5 minute affair here, good luck to CT peeps!

Steady light snow here now. Weird, big chunky flakes that make a sound when they hit your coat.

Not a great setup for a widespread hit....I made a few posts earlier in the thread. We're missing the really good LL moisture....we've got plenty of midlevel moisture and steep lapse rates, but the LL moisture a bit lacking for high end event. Also the lift isn't really strong (old school LI spike isn't quite there if using the primitive checklist)....but we'd still have a pretty good event if the LL moisutre was there.
There will still be a few good squals though as we're seeing some intense small cells develop.
Yeah, Sky’s are pretty dark to my west.

Someone East of Springfield is getting a little nuke.
Mostly sunny here. Hit or miss as we know.

I was close to 5” today, sadly no more MPM obs from top of Patten Hill but I’m guessing 6-7” from Colrain to Savoy?
Good December storm.
-
It’s not even Christmas and parts of interior SNE are close to half of their seasonal average.
Time to step way from the emotional cliffs, snow bongs and double IPA’s and let winter unfold.
It’s all going to be ok!

According to my friends up north (NH and VT) there is already a lot of hand ringing about lack of snow at the ski areas.
