If you want stickage this is last thing you want. Overnight would be more ideal for any sort of accumulation...

I'm probably wierd in this respect, but I get more enjoyment out of seeing the snow fall0

than how much if any accumulates. Age I guess, although I've got a tractor/loader so accumulation is not really a problem.

  2. Looks to me that by late afternoon we may end up with only an inch or two of additional snow accumulation due to a possible period of rain. In any case I'm going to enjoy another round of snow coming during daylight hours. This has been a great winter in that respect.

All correct, except one thing: Kuchera maps in THIS storm were actually more reasonable, including on NAM.

On the Nam or GFS,  looking at the "positive snow depth change" usually is much more realistic but not as fun to look at.

Yeah but the WAA snows way overperformed to make up for it. We were all sleet in levittown 30 mins ago but not have changed back to 50/50 snow sleet. The sleet is accumulating quickly too. Up to 7" in Levittown. Curious how I'm doing up in Hopewell. My guess is 4-5". Haven't set up a webcam to my snowboard like ray yet.... That's next year's project

Your sounds about right. I'm about 10 miles north of you and measured 3.5",with very little sleet. Being north was no advantage, I missed out on the thump this morning.

It’s mid levels yes but there is usually a mid level warm layer when we have a storm.  I’m going to simplify this but I feel it’s an accurate summary. There almost has to be a warm layer because it’s WAA as the wave approaches that is the primary impetus for precip. The warm air is lifted over the denser cold and that lift creates the precip. But warm is relative to normally very cold air at those levels. Rising air cools and condenses so it’s cooling as it rises. So long as that mid level “warm” layer stays just below freezing it’s ok.  But what happens if EVERYTHING is say 2 degrees warmer then it used to be?  Then a “warm” layer that was -1 is now +1 and the mix line just jumped 50 miles north!

    great explanation!  Thanks

I post on 4 different forums - but this one is the most laid back - the others all have some drama based on mods....

When you don't even need a moderator you know it's laid back. Lol.  This is a great subforum. I think Ant agrees, since he's posting here alot.
