  1. Don't do it to yourself for the millionth time this winter..
  2. Jr year in high school there was a storm that POURED snow while we were in school....over a foot of snow fell in 4-5 hours. They dismissed school around 1230....odd thing was there was a guy with no shirt on jogging outside around the high school...
  3. Some teachers would have much preferred that I did online learning rather than in class learning but the internet did not exist back then..
  4. Blizzard of 78 I was in college on the monday of the storm....they let us go home early at around 2 PM...Now they'd be widespread panic if a similar storm was approaching.. Classes were cancelled the next 4 days. It was the only time that school/classes were ever cancelled the night before during my 16 years of schooling....please note: some people would debate that I actually attended school for 16 years!
  5. The actual snow totals were likely between 40-50 inches during that time period..
  6. Some people get too emotionally involved with weather. They let it affect their wellbeing. I can't even begin to tell you how many "meltdowns" I have seen in the SNE subforums..I wish I was employed as an online psychiatrist because by now I would have made enough money to own much of Europe AND I would be in the process of buying back the original 13 Colonies!
  7. The data is there to establish the real averages so it should be used. It makes no sense to not include more than 100 years of weather data. And all of the data should be easily accessible to the public, not just to us weather enthusiasts.
  8. I've never been a fan of using "new averages". I think doing so distorts the real averages. The entire data set should be used to establish the averages....and before anyone "yells" at me, I am well aware that the official site for the weather observation(s) has changed over time.
  9. In Methuen Ma, school was closed on Monday for light rain and dripping water from snow on tree branches....the snow did not start to accumulate till after 2 pm. Parents were furious. Back in the day it took a legitimate snowstorm for school to be cancelled.
  10. We don't need Greenskeeper every year but he keeps showing up!
  11. Some people have been in denial about winter 22-23 since the beginning of November....at no point in time did the actual pattern ever look all that good. Keep posting!!!.
  12. Methuen isn't under a WWA...I'd bet money on BOX reading Ray's posts....
  13. https://www.wmur.com/article/alton-bay-ice-runway-closed-2023-season-new-hampshire/42612712 Fourth time in 12 years that the Alton Bay Runway will not open.....nothing to see there...
  14. The temp, sun and wind are doing a pretty good job at removing some of the snow.
  15. For the last 2 storms I used the handle(2-3 pieces) from a roof snow rake and a broom to remove snow from trees and bushes. It took a while, but it is better than having to have to pay to have a downed tree(s) removed. Another idea is to tape and/or use zip ties to attach a car snow brush to a long piece of wood.
