On a large scale picture, the FV3 blew every single other model away. Really excited for it to replace the old GFS after this storm, locked in about a week before and didn't budge(once again, on a large scale). On the flip side I am disappointed by the NAM, it had a bi-polar phase there on Saturday with the QPF. Picked up the warm nose well, just as it should however,

I apparently threw out my back last night pushing a car, people need to learn how to drive, I pushed close to 15 cars yesterday lol. What an amazing event overall. Got to have a lot of fun tracking it, actually might have enjoyed tracking it more than the event itself. I'm really excited to see what the rest of winter holds. But let's thaw out first.

18 inches of snow and one Jim Cantore pic later. Was rather windy early this morning, figured power outages would be a bit more of a concern than they were here.

Jim is a really cool guy to talk to, helped me and some others push someone's truck out of the snow (I believe that was shown on TWC?) and was cracking jokes with the people who were there.

By far the craziest snowstorm I've experienced.

Just woke up. I'm not sure how I'm gong to measure it, everything is severely windblown. And my car is not going to be leaving its parking spot for a few days thanks to the plows.

Parking spaces and such areas that havent been treated on king street are being covered. Main roads are still fine, moderate rates.
-
Ground is turning white in Boone. On king street currently, roads not really being affected yet.
-
Took a 20 minute shower and the ground is white. Now you may find me at a bar on king street watching.
-
Just made it back to Boone. Nothing yet.
-
Managed to drop a doe approximately an hour ago, before dressing weighed around 140 so decent size. Still no flakes but hoping to maybe hit some as I drive back to Boone here in a bit

Seen any deer today?
Had 3 this morning, just got back to the field and saw the same ones again.
-
And I'm on my phone in the field again instead of on my laptop so I could be perceiving this wrong, but looks like the HRRR is actually slowly increasing totals.
-
Congrats to all you guys already getting snow!!!

here’s my nest cam link - right outside of Hendersonville at ~2350ft facing east towards Lake Lure/Chimney Rock: https://video.nest.com/live/3KqqDNY8eO
Not sure if it will work well, first time sharing.
Good view!!!

I saw that. Starting to get a little worried about the warm nose. I think we stay all snow on the 12z euro but it's close
Unless another drastic change happens, I think we will be fine, Euro came close, but I don't believe it can really hit us this far away much worse than that. Fingers crossed,

12k NAM with 2 ft for Boone still at a 10:1 ratio....given ratios during the height will be higher than that. *As I mentioned earlier, still discounting the 12z Nam slightly altogether*

Patience is virtue not many possess during storms! Haha.
Reminds me of last year when it took hours to get snow up to Boone and Ashe, learned my lesson for this time lol
-
One thing to note, during the height of the precip, snow ratios on the NAM are around 12:1 for the mountains, just know that really hasn't been mentioned yet.
-
This looks good for everyone in our subforum. The only thing I don't like is how light the precip looks in the mountains, not sure how well upslope and topography reads on the HRRR?
-
HRRR still looking good, keeping the NAM on the back burner for this one. I would be more worried except for the fact it was absolutely atrocious out in the west, so I'm not weighing on it as much...yet.
-
All is calm. Getting ready to hit the woods for the evening round around 1. Would like to see a couple of flakes during it.
-
12 RGEM another huge run for NW parts.
-
Not sure if anyone saw the 6z RGEM, it's a beauty, especially for NW portions with snow going through the end of the run.

Not giving it a snowballs chance, but the GFS is trying to give us some Christmas snow.
