The anemometer on my weather station just thawed out and started working. It was the last thing to thaw out, trees lost their ice about an hour or two ago.

Nice glaze of ice on the trees and wires, most everything else just wet.

Got down to 32 degrees last night and some freezing took place. Another degree lower and it would have been an icy mess on Long Island. Temperature now rising at 33.

About 3/4 of an inch now and snowing moderate to heavy.

Some decent snows now as the band is moving in. Ground covered, pavement and streets starting to get covered.

Looks like a very heavy band from around Bridgeport Ct going across the sound to the north shore of Long Island and heading SW toward the Nassau border.

Steady light snow and beginning to stick.

Looks like the radar is filling in over the Hudson Valley and western Ct. and it looks to be  moving southward toward NJ and the metro area including Long Island.

MEanwhile my area is now under a winter weather advisory, first snow advisory issued. Accumulations upped from 1-2 inches to 2-4 inches.

Radar shows snow over me but just light rain and ice pellets.

My wind picking up out of the NNE but my temperature going nowhere, 36.7

Looking at the radar it looks like the storm is really taking shape and intensifying off the Jersey coast.

With all the reports so far of sleet, freezing rain or rain and no snow. Makes me wonder if the layers of the atmosphere are warmer than anticipated.

I've had a few raindrops with the temp 32. Eastern Nassau County

Storm moving in from the west and developing off New Jersey coast, especially this time of year with mild water temps, not a good scenario for NYC metro and Long Island.

the problem with the Sunday into Monday storm, like the ones recently, it is coming from the west not south. That means it will be further north, probably at our lattitude and moving away. So we have to hope it intensifies quickly and moves slowly in order to get any snow, especially for coastal areas.

Peak gust here this afternoon is 43mph, numerous gusts in high 30s. The 83mph gust at Stoney Brook was on an anemometer that is 390 ft high.
