  6. JUNIATA COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM)– Numerous roads are closed in Juniata County Friday morning, Aug. 30, following severe storms in North Central Pennsylvania, according to PennDOT. Emergency crews have worked through the night to clean up damages caused by lightning, rain, and heavy winds that swept through the Midstate overnight. Many roads in Mifflintown, Port Royal, Van Wert, and Thompsontown are considered impassable this morning. Fallen trees, poles, and wires are blocking roadways, leaving emergency crews stranded. abc27 received multiple reports from the area this morning, including a mudslide, a roof collapse at a home, a barn collapse that trapped livestock, and several collapsed basements. Mifflintown Fire Hall is open as a shelter to the public. Here are some of the roads closed in the area: Route 235 is closed North of McAlisterville due to flooding at a bridge spanning Little Lost Creek in Fayette Township. Route 75 is closed between Routes 74 and 333 due to flooding at a bridge spanning Hunters Creek near Port Royal in Turbett Township. Route 333 is closed between Port Royal and Thompsontown due to a roadway washout. Route 2002 (Miller Hill Road) is closed at a box culvert spanning a tributary of Doe Run approximately two miles northeast of Mexico in Walker Township. Route 2006 (Cedar Springs Road) is closed between Routes 2007 and 2009 due to down trees in wires. PennDOT anticipates reopening the road by 9:00 AM. Route 2007 (Locust Run/Free Spring Church Road) is restricted to one lane due to downed trees in utility wires. PennDOT anticipates fully reopening the road by 9:00 AM. PennDOT is encouraging morning commuters to drive with caution in flooded areas. If you see a flooded road, drive the other way. According to PennDOT, it takes as much as two feet of fast-moving water to float a car, and drivers can potentially be penalized if Emergency Services are called.
