  1. on the topic of Eastern (I think it was that long ago...) I hardly ever posted but I lived in fear of the purple weenie tag. I remember one time I summoned the courage to post, no doubt something dumb, and a few posts later someone started railing about terrible posts and "read more, post less" and I was mortified. Even though it may not have been me. Newbs these days have it relatively easy ('get off my lawn', etc)
  2. For this alone, our mods are freaking heroic. LOL at mashed potato diorama
  3. It's much more pleasant. The funniest thing is when a bunch of people on ignore are all talking with each other back-to-back and I'm like, phew, glad I'm not reading that!
  4. I've been around since mostly-lurking on Eastern and I've never used the ignore list until this year. Almost kinda had a policy against it. Unlike some people, I do NOT feel the board is much worse. There have always been terrible posts and knowledgeable contributions alike. Plenty of good posters still and I've always learned a lot and laughed a lot! But I realized I could not keep up when it's busy and needed a filter. Heck I even have my own "storm mode" where I temporarily filter for both quality and quantity. All that said, I don't contribute much besides obs, jokes, and coastal flooding outlooks/results that no one cares about so I get it if I too am on ignore .
  5. I haven't been able to track much but what's more disappointing is that I missed the genesis of the angle of the vorts
  6. This may be the way my brain works, but I've gotten a lot out of the NWS Glossary. (it says the purpose is to aid the public in understanding NWS products, but it's WAY more than that.) Good for looking up terms you're curious about, or you see mentioned here, or as an endless rabbit hole. https://w1.weather.gov/glossary/
  7. As a friend of mine once said, "if someone likes Young Frankenstein, I know we can be friends"
  8. one of the funniest movies ever
  9. The Oct 2021 event exceeded this at HdG but not by all that much (5.59 ft vs 5.34).
  10. high-end minor/near moderate coastal flooding this a.m. per HdG gauge. Here too per my eyeballs.
  11. just want to thank you for your life-giving obs
  12. In a little precip lull right now but what there is seems like fine plain rain. 1.5" before the flip. Just took a walk. Pretty out. Street is slippery!
  13. Light snow just started 30/23 It's already whitened the river ice.
  14. non-update: not as interesting looking last couple days as water levels have been higher. But can report still frozen over shore to shore at my location.
  15. here's what piers around here looked like yesterday (neighbor's, I don't have one)...working but will try to post an update for my fellow ice freaks
  16. River is frozen over all the way across this morning. edit, oops that was supposed to be in obs
  17. If this becomes a showdown between olafminesaw and MN Transplant the loser has to make hotdish for the winner
  18. Well done! Glad you've been able to continue. Felt great to get back last spring, summer, and fall
  19. Hey it's jnis, long time no see. Hope you've been able to keep going with music. It's really sucked. But thank goodness for outdoor gigs. Usually don't look fwd to winter passing, but. end banter 3.25" here. Great event. Technically snow on snow but there wasn't much remaining of the previous 3" snowfall.
