  1. I don’t like the look of that appendage, nothing special on the velocity to indicate anything else though
  2. My weather flow getting a workout today, real first time to see the lightening detection feature in action. I bit clunky, but better than nothing.
  3. Yeah, not a fan either, I use Radar Scope. The old NWS radar was fine IMO. I was a fan of the National mosaic display, but they even messed that up and its unusable now. They should have a ‘classic’ feature, kinda like when they rolled out new coke...now I have dated myself. found the problem with the LWX radar... NOUS61 KLWX 040416 FTMLWX Message Date: May 04 2021 04:16:10 There is a pedestal problem with the WSR-88D. The radar will be down through the night. Technicians will be notified 7AM Tue morning.
  4. Ugh. Feeling like mid July out there, 70 with a dew of 66. Anyone know what’s wrong with the LWX radar? Hasn’t updated since around midnight.
  5. Turning into a miserable evening, moderate rain, windy, at the low for the day (55.9 and falling fast, was 72 2 hours ago). On the plus side found a bottle of port that I missed from winter, might need to crack that open, maybe start a fire....Blue is temp.
  6. Only LWX can verify a STW without a thunderstorm. Never had anything less than partly cloudy skies, but definitely low end verification severe thunderstorm damage. Large limbs down, power out for about 5 min.
  7. On the doorstep. 60mph Gusts on the way...
  8. Almost like a derecho inbound...this could be interesting, see if it holds over the mountains.
  9. High wind warnings extended south into NOVA.
  10. Heavy wind with most of the trees nearing full leaf out....this should interesting.
  11. 91.2 for the high today, ugh!
  12. Being a card carrying member of GENX, I see the parallels to broodX https://www.mcsweeneys.net/articles/brood-x-or-gen-x?fbclid=IwAR05M-r-jTz_pcQz6q3gXkQi0WCw5TH9LdkJ232w7TovDZBU47tft8yZrPY
  13. Some indeterminate precipitation type. Temp 43 and windy...ick
  14. Why is it always stormy/windy on trash night eve? Amazon boxes blowing down the road...
  15. Wind never had an easterly component today, SSW was the closest I got, mostly W = hot!
  16. 85.6 for the high...nice early summer day
  17. 85...can we make a run at 90 anyone..car thermometer said 87..just saying. Grillin and chillin on tap. Might not even need fire bowl tonight
  18. Once we were, 2009-2010, now we Atlanta!
  19. Probably, we are do for a hot May! I probably jinxed it by opening the pool in mid April though...
  20. Was it over when the Germans....oh eff it, it was over in mid February. Guesses for first 90 degree day?
  21. That must have been fun times forecasting ‘93! I actually left campus and went home that weekend, family Iives in Duluth, GA at the time which is about 30mi NE of Atlanta. Got about 7-10, hard to really measure given the winds and drifting lol! If I recall correctly the blizzard warnings were a nowcast thing, was watching the weather channel sat AM and we went from winter storm warning, to heavy snow warning (remember those) then to a Blizzard warning. All in about 30minutes...things escalated quickly. The next day (Sunday) it warmed to near 50 under March sun and the melting commenced. I was able to drive back to campus on packed powder streets and slush. Back in time to watch the ACC championship game. After we won, some folks (mostly frats) decided to start a mini riot and made a bonfire at the corner of techwood drive and Bobby Dodd way. Melted the traffic light, lol. Cops and FD showed up, then someone decide it was a good idea to throw snowballs at the fire truck and firemen, let’s just say the retaliation by the FD was some errant hose work that left many wet and cold. Good times!
  22. Yellow Jackets win the Acc championship! 27 years 364 days since the last one, also the day after the storm of the century...what a time to be alive back then!
  23. Amazing event Omg 28 years ago! I am so old. Never thought I would be under a blizzard warning in ATL, or see Thunder snow there...I have been truly blessed by the weather I have seen in my lifetime...I have seen it all, from crazy blizzards in CO, to blizzards in DC, tornados to canes, but the Storm of the Century (20th Century) will always be the pinnacle....so far!
  24. Crap rates, today’s fireball and March sun angle....what could possibly go wrong. If only we were Denver! Happy to have experienced what is about to happen to them. My favorite was a late March Blizzard in 92, 80 at noon, cold front came through around 5 with tornado warnings, cranking snow and Thunder snow by 11. By 11 the next morning sun was out with about 25 inches on the ground. That was an epic 24 hour period.
