The hottest stretch of summer thus far will occur Monday through Thursday. High temperatures will reach around 90 into the lower 90s most days while the building humidity will result in heat index values in the middle to upper 90s. Overnight low temperatures through the period will not fall below 70, providing little relief from the heat. -

Just have to make it through the week.. Sat forecast high is lower than some of the lows this week lol Friday shaping up to be active day in terms of thunderstorms as sharp upper trough approaches and initial trough, then cold front cross the region Friday into Friday night. Likely thunderstorms in the forecast and given strongest shear we`ll see this week and abundant instability present, organized severe weather a risk. Plenty of time to fine tune this. At the least, that cold front will put an end to the hot and humid weather. Cold front moves east of the area by Saturday, with cooler, less humid and dry conditions for the start of next weekend. -

PERCENT INCREASE OF NEW COVID-19 CASES BY AGE SINCE JUNE 25 Floridians of all ages contributed to a rapid increase in new cases during the month of July, but a Miami Herald analysis found that kids under 12 had the highest rate of increase in new cases between June 25-July 23.The seven-day average of new cases for Florida kids under 12 grew from 205 on June 25 to 1,544 the week of July 23 — a sevenfold increase. -

Weather will become more active as week progresses. Hot and sultry conditions with daytime highs regularly reaching at least 90F and heat index reaching middle 90s and nighttime lows staying above 70F for much of the area for an extended period of time will eventually be replaced by a much cooler airmass by next weekend. Pattern favors Genesee valley to Finger Lakes to see greatest potential for needing heat advisories (heat index of 95+) during the week though it is certainly possible this risk could occasionally include Niagara Frontier and parts of North Country as well. There is some indication Thursday could feature a subtle frontal passage that could increase the amount of convection, before Friday when the ECMWF and GFS both drop a much deeper trough over the region along with convection ahead of a surface cold front and potentially some relief from the heat heading into next weekend. Coverage of showers and thunderstorms looks lower on Thursday compared to Friday but either day could feature strong to severe storms. Right now though looks like Friday would be the more active day as the abrupt airmass change toward cP occurs at that time. -

Insisting it’s “the right thing” to do and saying critics are “lying” about the issue, Gov. Phil Murphy formally announced Friday there will be a statewide mandate in New Jersey schools for all students in kindergarten through 12th grade, as well as staff members and visitors, to wear masks indoors at the start of the new academic year to help fight rising COVID-19 numbers. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nj.com/education/2021/08/murphy-unveils-nj-school-mask-mandate-as-some-parents-protest-he-says-mask-opponents-are-lying.html%3foutputType=amp -

This is the main"underlying health condition" in children..No kid should suffer or potentially die from a very treatable condition..My girl has had it her entire life and she's doing fine at the age of 35.. Asthma is the most common chronic condition among children,1 currently affecting an estimated 6.1 million children under 18 years, of which 3.5 million suffered from an asthma attack or episode in 2016. -

More Florida children were hospitalized with COVID-19 on Tuesday than in any other state, reflecting a rapid rise in serious illness among an age group considered to be at the lowest risk of severe outcomes from the disease and many still not eligible for the vaccine. A total of 46 pediatric patients were admitted to a Florida hospital with a confirmed infection while an additional 22 were hospitalized with a suspected case, according to the federal government’s hospital capacity data. Only Texas reported a higher total number of pediatric patients in hospitals with confirmed COVID-19 on Tuesday — 142 children — compared to 135 in Florida. -

I know this is only one area but you can find a lot of articles like this.. School is right around the corner.. Hankins said that in previous surges, at most, 2%-3% of child hospitalizations were coronavirus-related. The majority of those cases were kids in their teens with pre-existing health conditions. Now, 10% of child hospitalizations are coronavirus-related, with half of those young patients in the ICU. Hankins said the Delta variant is also hospitalizing children without any underlying medical conditions. “It definitely seems to be attacking these children differently, so more aggressive. So it not only spreads more easily but for the population of children, it also seems to be more aggressive,” Hankins said. -

Based on this analysis, Syracuse can potentially get up to 6.1 degrees warmer on average than its less-developed surroundings because of its urban heat island status. This index was calculated based on four main factors: albedo (reflectivity of surfaces), how much green space is present, the population and height of buildings in the city. In other words, the more non-reflective surfaces such as parking lots and roadways and the less greenery there is to act as shade, the warmer the temperature will be. -

Yankees going through their 2nd or 3rd "outbreak" of the season..As of right now 3 players have tested positive the past week..MLB has been doing a good job tracing and isolating before it becomes a bigger issue.. Biggest difference between baseball and football is minor leagues which the NFL doesn't have, so teams can just call up players to replace those on the covid list.. -

Appearing more and more likely that Monday will be a very warm to hot and humid day with a ~590dm ridge cresting over the area and 850Ts nearing +20C. Have some slight chance diurnally driven PoPs currently in the forecast for Monday afternoon, however may end up even being able to eventually trim these out as there will be strong capping aloft if the timing of the upper ridge holds. Have highs nearing 90 across the lower terrain south of Lake Ontario, but these will also likely trend upward a few ticks if the this scenario comes to fruition. Humidity levels also start to approach the `oppressive` category with dew points solidly in the upper 60s to around 70 to start the work week. Will see temperatures potentially getting knocked back just a little for Tuesday and Wednesday as a couple shortwave disturbances try to knock back the ridge a little and also possibly trigger some rounds of convection. Despite daytime highs Tuesday and Wednesday just a bit lower than Monday, dew points will likely be in the low 70s across a good chunk of the area, with upper 60s dew point readings only found across the higher terrain. This will mean very warm and sultry conditions persisting through mid week, with uncomfortable sleeping weather continuing for the overnight periods. -
