It looks like a strung-out mess and there is a vort diving into the lakes that is blocking our cold air feed.

If this setup stays consistent, southern upslope areas will take. From Franklin, Highlands to Hendersonville.
It would be nice to kick off the season well on the plus side!

Dont forget Franklin

Not buying the extreme totals by the euro but this is the year it should shine over the gfs again.

33 inches would be a nice Christmas present!

I'm hearing reports of a Christmas tree shortage this year. They say it is a result of the 2008 recession when fewer trees were planted by tree farmers. Trees planted around then are the ones being harvested this year. Some cut your own farms are reportedly not even opening this year. Have any of you mountain folk heard anything about this?
Still plenty of trees around here. Jackson county (the next county over) is a huge producer. We went and cut ours down yesterday.

Yep, but the million dollar question is; if you had to pick which 2 indices (from PNA, AO, NAO) were strongly in your favor and have the other neutral what would be the best configuration?

Cold rain sucks ! And the GFS is dry! We all know how this will end! Dry cold snap, then Thanksgiving-Christmas torch, more cold rain in January
Lol

Would like to see a lot better orientation of the trough.

I'll pass, had more than enough rain for awhile.
Looks like first half of November to be a little above normal. Not only no freeze, but not even seeing any 30s. Hope the winter does not remember that!
Nino Novembers are usually above normal.

Is there any sign of a foliage season in the NC mountains or is it a complete dud? The reports I have seen sound pretty dismal.
Mostly a dud. Way too much rain this year!

It then pushes inland moving NW past Greenville and over the mountains past NE Tenn. Mountains would get good rains with this path.
Mountains dont need anymore rain. It has literally rained since May.

My stepdaughter just moved up to Watertown NY cause she hates heat and humidity so much and now she is complaining that it is too hot and humid up there. It's been in the mid to upper 80's there recently. They have no A/C.
Why not just live above 4000ft in nc?

Man, those Euro weeklies suck! So much for that great pattern they were showing.

Winter looks to be mostly over at this point. Maybe we have a decent shot at something early March, but Feb looks like it’s circling the drain.
I really hate these winters now where you only get winter for half of the winter.
La nina winters tend to happen that way has the longwave pattern gets established. Then we will turn cold/cool for spring.

Its definitely a big step away from the cutter/amped solution.
