Yeah and that line wasn't forecast either. I didn't think we would get anything significant until about 2 or 3 today. Temps are much more manageable with it being 56 currently.
It's been raining steady here all day with temps in the mid 50s. I can finally light up my brush pile

I realize the upper energy is expected to produce a little more snow in much of the area. But based on what has fallen, any opinions about which global did best? I know the UKMET cut its totals way down starting with the 0Z 1/17 run and went too low for the most part at least in the RDU area after earlier being a bit too high on some even after adjusting the inaccurate Pivotal clown maps downward. The Euro was way too high as we know in many N areas including RDU on some runs 0Z 1/16 and earlier, but it seemed to do fairly well afterward once it knocked the amounts (snow and qpf down).
Didn’t the steady GFS do pretty well in RDU? Was it the best? Maybe not the Goofy of old??

I envy you guys. My 4 year old is awake and still going crazy.
Let them play until they crash! They don't get any younger and you never know how long it will be before the next snow

I just drove back up the mountains from Asheville. It appears everything above 4500ft is covered. Your report makes sense with what I saw. I did notice cumulus building near the border. Hopefully that bodes well for us as the sun goes down. Temperature here is 37.
Should bode well for soco later

I lost most of the snow from this morning, but I noticed the radar is beginning to blossom along and near the Tennessee side of the mountains. GSP is now saying snow returns tonight into tomorrow with 2 to 4 inches possible with higher totals. They are now saying we could snow into Friday morning.
Snow melted in highlands above 4k feet

is this the type of set-up that high elevations in north Georgia like around Suches could see a couple inches of snow?
Yes. Depending on how much moisture they receive. Should be cold enough

Don’t tell me it’s impossible to get snow outside the mountains.

Eyewall is in, and I see Matt lurking. This could have legs.
Still large changes from run to run at h5. This could still cut or get squashed and phase too late and still nail Boston!

We are racing against climo outside of the mountains. March snow is a thing of the past. It hasn't snowed more a couple inches in most foothills areas in March since March 1, 2009. Winters with no snow in March for foothills areas include- 2011, 2012, 2013, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024.
Add in the fact that Nina has strengthened and we are likely looking at an above average March.
Lol...reading this board it doesn't snow there in winter either

Creeks and rivers will rise tonight. A lot of heavy rainfall coming overnight from the Gulf of America.
They are already running high this evening. It's been pouring all day!

GSP in my opinion doesn't need to sit on this at the last moment. The word needs to get out now. This isn't the time or place to be conservative with the forecast...
The little Tennessee and tuck are up already with a lot of heavy rain still to come. Still a lot of debris blocking creeks and rivers as well. Stay safe everyone
