NYC getting smoked at this moment if that is all snow
Indeed we are. Had 5" on the ground in Manhattan about 7 AM. Really cranking now and we've just hit about 1/4 mile viz.
-
Pasting this as a reference for later. The shadow of a building a few blocks away is exactly 1/4 mile. Been watching the curtain draw down on it the past 15-30 minutes.

From about an hour ago when I measured 5". Snow has picked up substantially since then. Great snow growth.

Measured 5” OTG on grass on Riverside Drive at 8 AM. Maybe a hair more. This is sticking measuring tape into the snow.

Have we settled yet on a range for the city. Someone said Central Park could get 19", does the recent Euro support that?
The WSW is for 16-22. OKX has 21” for KNYC in their graphics.

Still only mood flakes on the UWS. Cars and untreated sidewalks barely dusted.

NBC4 also sticking to 8-12 in the face of a WSW for 14-18. That takes guts.

Thanks. That's encouraging to see if you are in NYC, as it seems to be holding pretty steady.

While it was misting/raining last night about 7 PM and I figured that was it for the event, went outside this morning to discover a weird layer of graupel on grassy and colder surfaces.
Edit: that was my 1000th post.

Thanks for the plug. Trauma processed, but I can't even remember that bust. Sorry. I just had to move on and try to improve. I think the chances of those busts have lessened quite bit with our past 20 years of improved forecast tools-processes (ensembles, positive snow depth changes, BUFKIT-Tsection analysis, snow ratio's, snow physics understandings, collaboration with the parent center=WPC). I hope you agree. Regards, Walt
It may have stuck more in my mind as we were coming off several pretty bleak winters and it was my first chance for a big storm in 5 years (I moved back to Boston in April 97 two weeks after the blizzard).
Walt, your AFD's were always a riveting reading! I always learned a lot and your passion always came through. In the days long before most pro mets would dare to tread in the waters of these boards, your AFD's felt like they were written for us weenies! As the March 2001 storm approached I was emailed you directly in my delirium to ask questions and couldn't believe you took the time to respond.

Just measured 9.5" of pure powder on the ground here on UWS. Back inside now, I'm hearing what sounds like a few pings on the windows and air conditioners.
