  1. Looks like you're cashing in this morning from that band. How much have you received?
  2. First subzero reading of the season this morning here at -2. Getting a few flurries now and again.
  3. Euro throwing you a bone with a nice snowstorm. GFS says It's an ALEK special.
  4. Getting 45mph gusts with the strong CAA. Temp has dropped almost 20 degrees since this morning, back down to 15. Snow has compacted a bit, down to about 4", with a nice crusty top layer.
  5. Nice glaze of a few tenths or so. Not bad after almost 5" of snow. Quality storm system.
  6. Same here. Have beefy returns overhead again and it's a driving rain (freezing) with no sleet. Temp up to 28, but still glazing very efficiently. EDIT: MLI finished with 5.3" of snow.
  7. Nice little glaze has formed as what is falling is freezing very efficiently with temp still well below freezing at 27.
  8. Pure freezing rain falling under these lighter radar returns. When the heavier returns move overhead we get bursts of sleet to mix in.
  9. I think I remember seeing a post from him awhile back saying he was going somewhere tropical on vacation.
  10. lol @ nano pingers. HRRR showing nice bonus snows for the east half of IA into far western IL tomorrow morning. Hoping to squeeze out a good half inch to inch out of that to induce ground blizzard around midday.
  11. This must be how it feels to be in the northeast during one of their coastal events. Not very often we get several inches followed by a decent period of sleet/freezing rain. Usually it's a bit of snow followed by lots of mixed crap, or dry slot, etc. Kind of hard to get a solid front end thump it seems in these parts. Enjoyable storm!
  12. Came up with an average depth of 4.8". Very difficult measuring event. Had to take many more measurements than normal. A heavy/driving sleet falling right now. Very loud against the east facing windows. The sleet, and small bit of freezing rain has completely shut off the blowing/drifting of the snow.
  13. 50/50 freezing rain/sleet. The snow has very quickly completely shut off.
  14. I haven't looked since before I left for work early this morning, but back then the HRRR was showing the snow/mix line reaching here between 7-8pm, so whatever that run was nailed it perfectly for this particular area.
  15. Wind is ripping straight away from my perspective in this pic. Nary a flake has managed to stick to the picnic table top today. Nice sculpted drifts surround it.
  16. Freezing rain and sleet is mixing in now. Still mostly snow, but the transition has begun.
  17. Averaging just over 4" here now. Nice dendrites now with this enhanced band moving through. Wind is really scouring the snow away from certain areas.
  18. Cedar Rapids/Iowa City/Burlington all reporting freezing rain at the new 6pm ob. Freezing rain/sleet should be into the QC by 7, and here shortly thereafter. Still high-end moderate snow here atm.
  19. If we can lay down a good dusting to half inch of snow tomorrow morning that could make for some wicked blowing snow out in open country. The current snowpack will have a nice smooth top for the new snow to blow off of. Last winter we had a very minor dusting following a crust-over event and it made for a very nasty blowing snow situation.
  20. Was pretty entertaining watching the snow roll in earlier. Could see the tree line in the south and west horizon start to disappear before flakes had reached our location at work. A few minutes later it was ripping quite nicely. Still all snow here, and it looks like about 3" or so. Should get another hour or so of pure snow before mixing issues arise. So, looks like we should end up close to 4".
  21. HRRR looking good. Looks like a wall of snow hits the QCA around 1pm. Looks like a solid 4" type storm, but if we can stay in the snow long enough more than that is possible. Gonna come down to how long we can keep heavier precip around, as once the lighter stuff moves in that will be the end of the snow. Tomorrow's winds are going to be legit. Several hours of 50mph wind gust potential.
  22. Shows 6-8" of snow along/north of I-80. Wow.
  23. RGEM can sometimes seem almost too aggressive with WAA during precip events, so the fact that it's keeping things as snow longer is a good sign. By the time the precip begins to mix up most of the heavier QPF will have fallen. Gonna ride my 3-5" call, which is pretty in line with DVN.
