Not sure if he hated cold weather, but yes he's from Chicago.

He left the board after Trump won the election.  I'm not sure if it was a bet or he humiliated himself so much in the political forum claiming Trump didn't have a chance that he couldn't take the heat.   Pretty sure it has something to do with TDS though.

Yep. He disappeared shortly after Hilary conceded the race. I know we all kind of had suspicion he had a few spam accounts, but even those disappeared. I remember bowmehunter as well, when I first started lurking the sub.

5 years ago today. What some people called the Polar Vortex Blizzard. I don't know if you like that name or not, but 10" to 13" of snow fell at Toledo. This was followed up by the possibly the coldest recorded wind chills in Toledo's history. (Assume the post-2001 wind chill formula) KTOL had -15 degrees with a wind of 20kt gusting to 27kt, and the wind chill was -43 degrees when computed with the steady wind of 20 kt.

One of my favorite storms of all time. Seeing heavy snow fall at 15 degrees was incredible. The wind was howling that night, interstates were shut down, and road salt had become ineffective towards the end of the night because of the bitter cold.

I remember waking up the following morning to  a WC of -44, the numbing cold was unbearable. God what a winter. One I can’t wait to tell my son someday. I swear it seemed every single week we were under some type of WWA or WSW.

Be careful if you're going out for New Year's, even if not in the main snow area.  LOT had this to say:

With the surface low associated with this system tracking across
or just east of our eastern cwa Monday, low level winds will back
to the north during the afternoon and evening hours, brining
colder air back into the forecast area. Cooling of the column is
expected to produce a transition from rain back to a
rain/snow/freezing rain mix across north central IL by Monday
evening. Some wet snow accumulation is possible during the evening
across northern IL, though precipitation intensity will diminish
fairly quickly as drier air spreads in aloft. Drying aloft, and
the loss of saturation in the -10C or colder ice nucleation layer
will likely result in precip transitioning to drizzle/freezing
drizzle overnight. Persistent southwest flow aloft, with a moist
boundary layer trapped by a sharp inversion, may result in this
drizzle/freezing drizzle/light snow or flurries persisting through
much of Tuesday. Forecast soundings depict a gradual
cooling/drying trend from the northwest by Tuesday night, which
should bring an end to the precip. This scenario would obviously
have slippery travel impacts during the New Years Eve/Day holiday.

Not enough free to drinks in the world to get me to go out on NYE, to many bozos on the road. I got my Jameson and “The truth IPA by flying dog brewery” which is a delicious beer for any IPA lovers!

Looking like another 40 degree rainer tomorrow. Boo. Likely finish December near +5

-This winter is going so bad....

    - how bad,is it???

    - stebo and the gang are discussing spring chases in the long range winter thread!

Seriously, the long range models really crapped the bed.   Even JB is admittedly rattled and beginning to second guess things.....and he usually never waivers.

Don’t worry buckeye he’s using  the strat warming  event as his escape door for 2002-2003 analog not working out. He’s busting out the ole trusty January 1985 analog now on Twitter  it’s almost comical.

The upper ov/lower lakes area is in a large snow slump. It some respects it started in the winter of 2014-15 with the super bowl snowstorm surging north the last 24 hours and 2015-onward has been very disappointing.

Bingo my friend. Here it started December 2014. We only recorded a T the entire month.

    That's just wrong

Our winters In a nutshell since the legendary 2013-2014. We missed out on GHD II completely, we missed the brunt of the big November 2015 storm, and completely whiffed on last months blizzard.

If April is going to be the snowiest month, at least go for something big.  That's just bad. :axe:

Go for something big? Hoosier that mentality has gone out of the window for central Illinois for the last 4 years. We have been nickle and dimed to death. Try not to complain but damn, it’s been brutal here.

  7. Boring December weather wise, nothing in the forecast to close out the month. But on the other hand, My son is bouncing off the walls for Christmas, he’s 3, so it’s the first year he’s been truly excited and it’s a nostalgic feeling. And daddy treated himself to a brand new 65” 4K TV just in time for the bears playoff game!

Merry Christmas everyone. And here’s to a central Illinois big dog in January or February. Lord knows we are due. God bless.

It might just be me, but there seem to be quite a few similarities from where we are now to the winter of 14-15. Especially in the Pacific.

Was literally thinking this exact thought a few days ago. Very cold November, followed by a mild December. Although this December is already off to a much better start than 2014. December 2014 we tied for the least snowiest December with just a T recorded.

Im just tired of the 1-2” snowfalls. I want a good 6-10” storm, it’s been I believe since the winter of 2013-2014 we had such storm.

This december has been extremely foggy.

  9. I love the feel of our sub. It’s a tight knit community with lots of great analysis. I love that the sub isn’t drowning in nonsense posting. Every morning I grab my coffee, and instantly jump on to read what everyone is saying. I’ve learned so much from my time here, and I’m grateful for you guys.

As as far as the Midwest being boring, I totally disagree with you. Sure a lot of us are flat with cornfields, but we have some of the most dramatic weather across the country. 100’s in the summer during a boiling heatwave to negative teens during an arctic outbreak. Severe weather outbreaks in the spring, to monster blizzards in the winter.

  10. With the fresh 1” snowfall yesterday, temperatures plunged last night all the way down to 8 degrees. Had horrendous freezing fog this morning, but man did it setup for a beautiful morning! Trees plastered with snow, and extra frosty. Looks really cool.

Storm next week looks warm. Really hope this winter doesn’t blow its load by the second week of January and poof it’s gone.

I hear that lol.  Yeah it's raining almost heavily now with a temp of 35.  Weather station crapped out a few weeks ago, so I don't know how much rain has fallen, but guessing a good 1/4".  If you look closely there's some partially melted flakes coming down with the rain, so the changeover isn't too far away.

Enjoy your storm cyclone. Better put your amazing photography skills to use too. Have fun I’m super jealous. 50 and rain here with some back end flurries in the morning.

What an unusual month. I just checked my CoCoRaHS record and I have seen flakes flying on 11 days this month with more chances next week. Granted, it has only been trace amounts, but it is something I'm used to seeing in February, not November. I would venture to guess that it is more likely to see one relatively large snow event  than this practically constant snow flurries/showers.

Happy Thanksgiving every one (Go Bears).

It has been an absurdly cold November. We still have parking lot piles from the last 2 snow events that have failed to melt simply because the temperature has barely been above 32. Beautiful turkey day weather on tap, 52 and sunny.

And yes go bears! Feels good to be first in our division after so many years of Aaron Rodgers and the packers dominating!

With several light snowfalls the past week and constant cold, my mindset has shifted into mid Winter mode, and it's kind of unrealistic because that graph shows you how early in the season it really is. We were having a severe outbreak in mid November of 2013. Little did we know at the time that we were on the way to a historic, once in a lifetime Winter that was completely relentless. It was not just how severe Winter was with the cold, snow, and snow depth, but it set in early and never left. Even then it had not locked in in mid November

My dad and I frequently talk about this tornado outbreak and the winter that followed. It literally seemed like Mother Nature slammed us with a historic tornado outbreak, and then immediately  delivered a knockout blow with relentless cold, snow, and as you mentioned snow depth. We had a blizzard that year (Polar Vortex Blizzard) we had thunder snow from a separate event, we had wind chills readings places hadn’t seen since the 80s, snow depth that literally felt like we didn’t see bare ground from December to March.

I will never ever forget the brutal winter of 2013-2014.
