  1. i go out for a bit and come back, people are honking 5-6 inches...a few runs later, light snow or rain.....it's maddening so i'll check back later, being dragged to a movie i don't wanna see....family time. avatar. hopefully i can catch some zz's.
  2. they change every run so that leaves me with no confidence. we'll see what happens.
  3. forky too. but let's face it, not much has gone our way the last few years, so we gotta take what we get. its why i made sure to get some photos in december for those small events, because that could be it. still a ways to go this winter and we should see something again, but those years of 50 inch winters are over it seems, and i ain't getting younger.
  4. both were lackluster here, but nemo was better because we didn't expect much to begin with; jan 2015 they pulled the rug out at the last minute. 2015 was a rather disappointing year out this way, but still better than recent years....
  5. i wouldn't buy into this too much.....it's like saying hey, we could have an economic, military, or political event.....you're bound to be right at some point and never wrong about there being possibilities. the surest way to get a good grade in history is to start your essay with, 'it was a period of change and transition '.....can't go wrong.
  6. people don't post much anywhere on places like these anymore.....most of the forums i went to on health topics and sports are either gone or have slow traffic. it kinda started with facebook then moved on to other things. there were three other weather forums back in the day that i recall, and anthony was on at least two of them......that's dedication. at least i think it was him.....you'll notice a lot of magazine and news sites have dropped comments as well.
  7. if you want to wrap it up that's fine; go get your garden planned, respool your rods, whatever it is you do to get ready for spring. otoh, i have seen good snows in march, and in decades where the winters were warm as hell, too. been around a long time. you'd be crazy to say its over at this point. now, a betting man has a good chance of betting against snow, but gun to my head, i would not bet against snow until mid march.
  8. 84 was really cold; i remember the ice sheets on the banks of the raritan river after a thaw; huge slabs the size of a bus.....85 did have some cold days even a little snow iirc.
  9. it was the year i purchased a full on down parka from ll bean....which i did not need till 1994, at which point i had gained a few pounds.....my wife wore it....
  10. another heartbreaker up here...what a major disappointment in middlesex county. there's a reason its forgotten, alright....i think we had 5-6. which is fine, but not when the apocalypse was advertised....
  11. these set ups favor ocean/monmouth and long island, not us. we get a few inches, they get buried. we can drive a few minutes south though to see it all....that is, if this even amounts to anything. until the day before, i'm no longer all that excited; and even then, sometimes it doesn't pan out; look at the last one. struggled to make 3 inches....
  12. i'm just across the river and iirc the bands just refused to cross.....about 6 inches here what a disappointment compared to areas south and east.
  13. its winter; there is always a slight risk of heavy snow.
  14. laughing my butt off. some funny stuff here tonight. we need a storm....
  15. my understanding is the storm can phase too far east or north....seen that more than a few times.....jan 2015, march 2001....they were still good storms, just not for us....i did get 7 inches in jan 2015 though, and 6 in feb 2013, which felt like a win after that winter....if those were miller b's....
  16. its a message board; don't take it personally. you'd probably be friends in the real world, because there aren't many out there who enjoy snow....not in these parts.
  17. i simply would not want to live in such a place. there's such a thing as too much of a good thing. 4-8 is about right.
  18. but so are miller b's....we can miss the phase....right?
  19. went fishing there a couple times back in 90 and 91. i've heard the epic man made salmon runs are largely a thing of the past in most of the lakes, as the invasive alewives themselves could not survive the lakes. efforts are underway to restore natural fisheries, though iirc ontario did have salmon at one time, unlike the other lakes. the fishing i saw there did not make me want to go back, i'll say that. but i was fishing with a bunch of amateurs.....i had read a recent book on the lakes and there is a documentary out there i saw, i've always been fascinated by these huge freshwater seas.....even this photo does not impart the sheer vastness of the lake....
  20. think the jan 2005 blizzard was a clipper type system; it was a big snow but not on the level of others, though it did hit cape cod really hard. around 12-18 in most of the region; cold and all snow.
  21. we don't need a ku; they are rare anyway. we just would like some events. 3-6 is fine.
  22. what makes you think your wife would approve?
  23. even that year produced one really decent storm in feb.
