it was in my 30's after 94 that i got my first snowblower....i was diagnosed in 1996 after a viral illness caught teaching summer school the summer before; it was hell; but even the snow blower is heavy and causes me issues, plus i still have to shovel areas between the cars and clean out the back porch for the dogs. but its ok, we love it. gotta pace myself, 63 years old.....it goes fast. and usually, i'm on the fringe with a lot of storms, but got hit with them this year. every year is different.

i think they were bigger than most realize; that sleet infusion in the first storm was rather unusual and with the cold temps that followed, we were digging or for weeks; just when you started to see real erosion, here comes the 15-20 inches and more to replenish the pack; of course we knew the second one would not stick around, but what an odd winter; a month or so of nothing followed by a genuine ku...and it wasn't 3 feet so yawn....lol. it was 3 feet in providence though....my arms are still recovering and that's no joke i have fibromyalgia, have had it for 30 years; i do not recover quickly from that kind of shoveling....

not a torch; how bout a normal spring; 70s and high southwest winds don't do much for me. and they are always followed by cold damp periods...

at the end of each fishing season i have had it; am cursing the regulations, the east winds, the cold fronts, the offshore swells etc. but right now i am itching to get back into things.striper season is open though it is never too good in the spring anymore, and i might give some south jersey perch a whirl.

i now wait til june 1st. tired of cold snaps late in the season, and the plants produce well into the fall these days, so no worries. get plenty of everything waiting til the first, and still sometimes get cold snaps....

its never as warm as they predict; though 1998 was ridiculously warm, and windy...it will be less than ideal; mud season begins in days....

newark at almost 54...rivals 94 actually....that's a blockbuster winter in these parts.. and maybe we ain't done yet; these kinds of years almost always throw out a march sleet or paste event, sometimes an april one too.

went out at 3 am to put garbage out as it was delayed a day; also for a gas run. usually its pitch black but it was so bright i didn't need the porch light. still a winter wonder land out; unfortunately hit a broken blade from a snow plow, hope i didn't damage my daughter's car....the perils of an actual winter...pot holes are gonna be epic....

since my dogs got used to walking on top of the other snow pack, they thought they could do the same this time, with disastrous results....poodle hair is like velcro for snow....

i worked in elizabeth for many years teaching middle school; like nyc they rarely closed schools, pointing out that places like rochester and minneapolis have school with snow, no reason we can't....they actually sent this home to parents....one thing i remember is that, none of the good kids would show up on snowy days, but every pain in the A did, because their parents didn't want them home....

ninos can be super warm with temps in the 70s in feb. don't like em at all, and usually rainy and windy too.
