  1. If he's using the 1981-2010 normals he's wrong. April-July 2003 were all below normal. Edit: Also those 4 months were below normal even using the normals at the time.
  2. Quite an extreme April for BWI... yesterday's rainfall of 3.06 inches tied the previous daily record set in 1947. This was the 2nd wettest April ever with 8.6 inches total (record is 8.7 inches set in 1889). The period from Jan-Apr was tied for 5th coldest Jan-Apr period ever (38.0 degrees). Time to issue a top 10 coldest year on record watch?
  3. Just missed the record rainfall and record low- 2.42 in. vs 2.52 needed, and 31 degrees vs 30 needed. Trace of snow fell on the 15th instead of the 16th, so that wasn't broken either (unless they record a Trace for today, but I'm not sure)
  4. Also BWI is closing in on the daily rainfall record... 2.52 is the record, 2.14 has fallen so far.
  5. BWI did indeed tie it. Next up is a record low watch overnight tonight- need to reach 30 degrees or lower. Also for tomorrow we could possibly tie the record daily snowfall (a Trace), which last occurred in 1988.
  6. It looks like BWI will tie the record high minimum for today of 62 degrees unless something happens before midnight (which is doubtful). This will be the 5th consecutive April where BWI has either broken or tied at least one high or high minimum record. If we finish April above average, this will be the 7th consecutive April with above-average temperatures for the month overall.
  7. BWI had the 11th coldest March and tied for 6th coldest Jan.-Mar. period ever (if rounded to nearest tenth of a degree). Rodney, how did Jan.-Mar. rank at IAD in terms of cold? Curious to see if it made the top 10 as well.
  8. Lowest max was indeed broken- 36 degrees, replacing previous record of 38. Record low was tied overnight at 20 degrees.
  9. Record lowest max watch today and record low watch tonight at BWI. Top 10 coldest March and top 10 coldest Jan.-Mar. period watch too.
  10. 38.8 inches has now fallen this season at BWI, making it the 14th snowiest season on record so far. Other than the big three winters ('96, '03, '10) this has been the snowiest season at BWI since 1979, which had a 42.5 inches seasonal total. Also, so far this is the 14th snowiest March on record, with 11.9 inches so far.
  11. Just a mere two years after BWI had the hottest Jan-Mar period ever, we are now in the running for the coldest Jan-Mar ever. We are currently tied with 1904 with an avg. temp of 32.3 degrees for the three months so far. Let's see where it ends up.
  12. We never made those first two but the March 5 one is still a possibility- record low is 10, forecasted low overnight is 12.
  13. BWI set a record daily low for yesterday and today, and a record monthly low this morning.
  14. Forecasted low tonight for BWI is 5 degrees... if we get that it will tie both the daily record low for March 4 and the monthly record low for March itself. Wow.
  15. So far this is tied for 13th coldest year at BWI (January and February)
  16. Record lowest max warning for today at BWI. Record low watch for March 1 and 5.
  17. BWI already set another daily precip record for today... top 10 wettest February potential is for real now.
  18. Daily precip records for BWI, DCA and IAD on 2/3... gives us an early lead to go after a top 10 wettest February?
  19. BWI finished tied for 8th with 1904, with an average monthly temperature of 27.4 degrees. This has been an impressive month for winter.
  20. As of yesterday we were within 0.1 degrees of tying 1994 but today's going to ruin it for sure- 47 at BWI already. I was worried about today, I figured it would end slightly above average. We should still finish in top 10 though.
  21. We're now tied for 9th coldest! The low of 5 this morning will help even more. Now I'm waiting to see if we can get colder than 1994 (which is 7th on the list and only a half degree away)
  22. After yesterday we were tied for 14th coldest. And today was well below average so that will help. I think we will get in the top 10, but its possible Friday might ruin it at the very end with a near normal to slightly above normal day. Rodney, how's DCA and IAD looking? Any chance of breaking top 10 there?
  23. ...yet another record lowest max watch tomorrow for BWI.
  24. Jan. 21 is the new Dec. 5 :-) But that made me think- what day in the year has historically had the most accumulating snow events?
  25. The era of snow futility is over. Won't be tracking this anymore fortunately. Snowfall record was beat, looks like the lowest max will get beaten too.
