In some ways, it is a good thing for me right now to not have to deal with winter storms so we can get stuff moved to my parents house. Stress is sky high for me right now with having to pack up a house the second time in a year, look for jobs, apply for jobs, and check out places.

My wife's car broke down, I developed a sinus infection, wife's sister is dealing with flooding in Tennessee, and we just found out her uncle has 24 hours left to live. Not to mention several other things going on...

As they say, when it rains it pours (no pun intended, lol). Hang in there, things will get better.

  2. It’s getting to the time of the year where these minor events aren’t even worth the effort. The increasing sun angle will melt a couple of inches of snow as soon as it comes out. We still have 3-4 weeks to realistically get something big so that’s what I’m living for.

...BLIZZARD WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM SUNDAY TO 4 PM EST
    MONDAY...

    * WHAT...Blizzard conditions and lake effect snow expected. Total
snow accumulations of 6 to 10 inches expected in the most
persistent lake snows across the Tug Hill Plateau, and 3 to 6
inches across the surrounding lower elevations. Winds gusting as
high as 70 mph will produce severe blowing and drifting snow
      with whiteout conditions.

    * WHERE...The Eastern Lake Ontario Region. Greatest snow amounts
and most persistent blizzard conditions focusing on the Tug Hill
      region.

    * WHEN...From 6 PM Sunday to 4 PM EST Monday.

    * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Travel will be nearly impossible at times.
Areas of severe blowing snow will produce whiteout conditions at
times. The hazardous conditions will impact the Monday morning
      commute.

I was just about to post that. Even if snowfall amounts aren’t huge anything that falls will be carried by the strong winds. I could see that definitely causing ground blizzard conditions.

if you're at 126" for the season Wolf then we down here haven't even broke 100" yet which is just sad!

82 inches here so far. Funny this I’ve recorded at least a trace of snow for the last 9 days and it’s amounted to 10.6 inches, half of which (5.7 inches) fell on 2/13.

I’m all in on this little storm. It rarely fails. This type of track will bring bonus snow to the thruway corridor. As long as we can get a N wind component we are solid for 4”+. It’s gonna catch people off guard. Thank god for NO MIXING, NO WIND, NO CUTTING, NO DOWNSLOPE.

After that it’s more of the same. That familiar cutter pattern with too anemic redevelopment to hold the cold= RAIN, sleet and crap.

Weird question: why are elevation events more common in March and April? Or is that just my imagination?

I would have to say that as we get into March and April the increasing sun angle warms the boundary layer even more at lower elevations. Higher elevations obviously benefit from lapse rate cooling and the few degree difference over a thousand foot difference in elevation can be enough to make the difference between snow and rain.

Lake effect snow isn't for everyone but Meteorologist Lindsay Raychelsays, take it from the kind hearts on the Tug Hill-- when you see the snow fall, slow down, take a breather from what can be a hectic schedule and just try to enjoy it because snow will fall in Upstate NY whether you want it to or not

  7. Channel 9 on their 5 o’clock news tonight is showing a feature titled “Life on the Tug”.  They’re going to be featuring local residents, including Carol, describing what it’s like living on the Tug Hill Plateau. I’m assuming our resident Tug inhabitants are not included which is too bad because I’m sure they could add some interesting perspectives!
