  1. I can't believe it. The storm that was heading towards me just now is splitting north and south.
  2. That Reading storm whipped by JUST to my south. Really gusty right now, bright sun, and dark clouds to the south and west.
  3. We made it to 91.4°F this afternoon, and it's hovered around 90 since 1pm. So glad we got the soaker hoses in a couple of days ago (all 600' of it!)
  4. Got .28" here. Currently almost 80°F with the premise for a spectacular sunset through a partly cloudy sky. What a lovely, mostly cloudy/rainy day to work from home today.
  5. I think we had more official heatwaves by this time last year, so while the relative reprieve has been nice, these kinds of days still suck. Current project is to lay out drip hose for the back garden so we aren't out watering past 10pm. Just laying it out today had us both overheated and exhausted. When I was a kid, summer was something to look forward to. As an adult nearing middle-age, summer is something I have become accustomed to suffer through in order to get to the cooler months. I mean, I love how our area of PA is super green and beautiful this time of year, but I am not nearly equipped to handle this heat/humidity/hummus.
  6. Yeah I mistimed my mowing schedule this week and will either have to get up way early or just sweat it out tomorrow afternoon. Ugh. One day closer to fall though.
  7. Hot, humid and... hummus? What's the third H?
  8. Put almost 1/4" in my back yard rain gauge. Hit just after I got home, too, which was nice, for me. Not so nice for my wife and my MIL--my wife was giving her mom a tour of the back garden. The sky opened up suddenly and they got a little wet.
  9. Posting as a person doing field work for the past couple of and the next couple of weeks, this is a blessing. Last week had a couple of brutal days, but I'll take as much "coolness" as nature will give over the next few days. Looking at 90's over the weekend though, so indoor projects are definitely on tap for then. However, I do need to get in about 600' of drip line outside and that will probably take precedent over indoor projects as we have been up past 10 pm watering all of our new plants/garden several nights recently. Eh. Maybe the weekend forecast will trend cooler as the week progresses. Hopefully.
  10. Dude. I feel that. I have to string trim tomorrow to clean up last night's mow. Sounds lovely, might even need a sweatshirt! (Apologies, @RedSky)
  11. Looking forward to it. Worked outside all week. Wednesday and today were rough, Thursday was nice (after the storms at least). Was kinda surprised to get a static shock while exiting my vehicle after coming home this evening on account of how dry it had become. Hot and dry is a little bit unusual here, but I'll take it (for a little while at least). Tomorrow should be lovely for getting some yard work done.
  12. Just to your guy's east here in Reading, looks like an unbelievable amount of lightning. Interesting relative velocity in that storm as well. Hope you guys are hunkered down and ok!
  13. Man I don't like the looks of that storm churning through Harrisburg. Some "interesting" returns on the relative velocity:
  14. Drove to work through that thunderstorm this morning, it was pretty wild! Looks like we made it to 87.6°F at home today, currently 84. Might mow later. Might. Dunno.
  15. Made it up to nearly 92°F here, currently "only" 87. The lawn can wait another night I think.
  16. Saw that tornado-warned storm SW of B'more. Sure enough, relative velocity was very apparent. The warning has since lapsed, but the signature is still there (as I type this).
  17. Eh, turned out pretty decent with .48" in the gauge so far.
  18. Feeling the occasional spit of rain outside, but the radar returns over me suggest that there's a lot of virga.
  19. Amen. We ate out on the deck last night, and afterwards we chilled out on the patio chairs for a couple of hours. It was just perfect last night.
  20. Man what a beautiful day today. If the rest of summer could be like this, I'd be ok with that. I've been out of town for a few days, and my wife hurt her back right before I left so she couldn't mow--it's been 10 days since we mowed last. Two hours of bushwhacking later, and I barely had to wipe the sweat from my brow. 25% humidity FTW.
  21. So far the storms have fizzled before reaching the Teterboro area, but the radar to the west looks promising. Just ordered pizza. Should get here before anything significant rolls through. It was a nice day up here, only reached 73°F and has been pretty much overcast all day. Meanwhile, back home in Reading, my back yard PWS reports a high of 94.1 with a current temp of 89 there.
  22. Made it to 95.7°F at home today. I'm up in Teterboro for the week and only saw 89°F in the car, though it's a new car and I haven't validated it yet. Seems a bit low given that the closest WU station measured at least 94. I wonder if there's a way to calibrate it. Anyway, even though I'm only 2.5 hours-ish northeast of home, we are expected to be significantly cooler tomorrow here due to a cold front pushing down overnight. My HS in the 90's also had no A/C except for the permanent "temporary" classroom trailers out back. 700 kids in a building designed for 400. The HS has since been relocated to a brand new building and the former location has been gutted and rebuilt into who knows what these days.
  23. Possibly, but I've had no reason to doubt it in the year and a half it's been up. Here's a current temp map from WU:
