I29 and it has been snowing here for a bit now. We have Ballenger Creek right behind our house. And there are types of birds that show up as the weather gets nice. I know that there are the ones that are not the typical ones who hang around in winter and can hear them today. I use the Merlin ID App from Cornell University and it lets me know what I am hearing. Blue Jay, Common Grackle, American Goldfinch, European Starling, White-throated Sparrow, House Finch, House Sparrow and the Red-winged Blackbird are all on my deck feeder. Am guessing that some are migrating back and my fresh cat cable has attracted them. The Red-winged Blackbird is the one I most associate with being near some water as they are found in wetlands and fields.

This would be a fun birthday present for me.

54 and cloudy. Took advantage of the day and cleaned up my front gardens. Liriope is cut down for new growth and rose bush is cleaned up. Filled up the cable for the cats and felt it starting to spit rain. So timed my yard work well.

Ok so I keep hearing an airplane overhead but check Flightradar24 and there is nothing there. Thought was hearing things but Mr. J hears it as well.

Tonight’s dinner. Potato and pepper spinach hash with poached eggs. Had some veg that needed to be used.

Sun is partially out. 35 deg. Anything that was on the non pavement surfaces is now gone. Wind is tossing anything that landed on trees all over the roads. Quite the time driving on Jefferson Pike and having flying powder balls hit your car. Am fine with nothing really. Just got my first Shingles shot yesterday and feeling it today. And with Mr. J having a Low pressure headache the driveway would have been left to itself.

Last big snow storm we got was 2016. That being said we are a wind tunnel anymore. There is not much of weather that I dislike but wind in my book gets the hate word attached to it.

Yeah I am late to the party on starting these seeds. Honestly forgot about them till I found them in my kitchen. Going to see if my local feed/garden store is up and running today and get some dirt and transplant pots with covers. If not Lowe’s it is.

Your area over mine I would have thought would have gotten more. Yeah what I got really only started sticking around 11 last night. @Imgoinhungrylast night told me that where he is on the SE side of downtown stuff was sticking quite well. Wonder what he ended up with. What a great play by play of this area. That being said the Low is sidelining Mr. J. He woke with a horrible sinus headache around 3am. He has a work from home day but he may just take a health day.

Not going out to measure so will use my deck eye system. A solid 2” on the table cover that is shielded from wind. Grassy surfaces have some completely covered spots while others you can see vegetation peaking through. No pavement coverage minus the blown snow. As usual due to other areas around Frederick Co., mainly in the mountains and N. Fred Co. FCPSMD is closed. Glad my kids are graduated as these kids will be in school till mid June at this rate or loose spring break days. Still have snow flying here and the winds are just yuck. College kids report is the DC kid has a late start but she has an afternoon class so does not affect her. PA kid woke and promptly texted that her 8:30 is canceled. The excitement was shown in capital letters. All in all, minus the wind as I absolutely dislike wind, any storm I do not have to shovel my driveway is a win. MD weather will never cease to baffle me. Between the topography and smaller size it literally is a grab bag of surprises.

Still getting light snow. Actually have a dusting on grassy surfaces now.

Thank you! I am pretty sure I am going to deck pot them as that will be easier for me to tend to them.

I may not have snow but I do have a grilled cheese and potato and onion soup.

Ok I have a serious question for you. What is it about the area of Frederick Co. I live in that is so vastly different most times to other areas. Even areas all around me. I am still a light rain/snow mix here and absolutely no accumulation at all. Is it being closer to the Potomac? I truly want to understand. But I do not know enough about climate or my area to understand the 180 dynamics.

Ok interesting. I am just SW of downtown and have nothing. Just a wintry mix. I really want to understand this area of Frederick Co. The only thing I can think is being closer to the Potomac.

Ok so I think my area of Frederick Co is officially the snow hole with this one. At least as of now. Still a mix and all surfaces just wet.

Ms. J down in Tenleytown just called to say it is starting to accumulate. Told her still just a mix up here and nothing accumulating. The temp has dropped to 32 though after hovering around 35/36.

We just switched to a mix about 40 minutes ago. Very wet

Not everyone. Cold rain up here in SW Frederick Co. Up in the mountains I have heard there is snow.

Good day all. I went back in the different thread pages as I am looking for the gardening thread but did not find it. I have in the past done my gardening by purchasing the plants and then growing from there. I have done some from seed such as Basil but never anything else. I was able to get some Hungarian Red Peppers last summer and decided to keep some of the seeds. I am looking for some advice on when to start the seeds indoors. I have found some directions that say the seeds should be started 8-12 weeks before the average last spring frost date. Where would I find the average date for our area or does anyone know that? I am thinking that I need to start these seeds soon and need to get the proper materials. And if anyone has any good advice they would like to pass along it would be appreciated. Thanks
